TIMES LIKE THESE: An August evening, we were loosing the light after the sunset whilst eating our dinner. The whales were entering the strait sporadically heading East. A few individuals broke away from the group to forage for salmon a little closer and I decided to play the harmonica (thank you in advance for all your kind words on my clearly undiscovered talent)
We know these whales are driven by sound, They depend on it, it’s what drives them in their underwater world. We spend our time here listening to these whales completely and utterly intrigued and compelled by their every sound and movement but for this short moment the tables had turned and it seemed that this little whale was listening to us!
We continued playing to them into the dark of night and one of the babies even come right up to the platform to check out the funny little noise sounds coming from the shed on the edge of the earth.
Times like these are what makes life feel real. Connection, discovery and understanding between two species is just “TOTALLY COOL”
