I receive so many compliments on my skin- almost on a daily basis. Although it’s very flattering and I’m appreciative that people notice the special attention I give my skin, I’m also more for honesty than flattery.
My skin is NOT perfect. Not even close!
I have freckles, moles, veins that show through my eyelids and jawline. I cried a lot in my 20s and was left with permanent puffiness, no matter how much eye cream I use! Yes, that’s a thing! I try not to obsess over the imperfections. I follow a tight regimen and perform regular treatments.
I know that the sun does far more harm to the skin than good, so I take care to protect and shield. I avoid eating too much sugar and stay as far to the alkaline side of the scale as I can. When I have post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation, I treat it immediately! I invest more in my skincare than material things because I have to wear my skin forever.
For my 33rd birthday photos, I chose to be very revealing but not in a provocative way. Mascara, sheer lips and a little highlight. Revealing in a way that shares my beauty and flaws. The same vulnerability as the women and men who come to me for help- makeup free, self conscious, looking for guidance and hopeful.
I requested that @loveangelsphotography not photoshop my skin and allow me to remember myself in a moment of freedom, when I look back in 10-20 years. We all age. It’s unavoidable. I’m taking a smarter approach. With grace. And self acceptance. As the years go by, I hope you look in the mirror and feel the same. ❤️
