When a book has an amazing blend of themes such as: culture, history, relationships, self discovery and pursuit of happiness, you can expect to have a good read. Everything Good Will Come by Sefi Atta is a coming of age novel about a girl growing into a woman in postcolonial Nigeria and England. Throughout the novel the main character, Enitan, is faced with various issues such as family troubles, rape, cheating boyfriends, and imprisonment. Beyond Enitan’s personal entanglements, the novel is a biting commentary on post-independence governments in Nigeria and tensions between Igbo (Biafrans), Yoruba, and Hausa ethnic groups after the Biafrian War. This book is a page Turner, it sheds light on how our society got here. #TuesdayTurner #Books #Biafran #Hausa #SefiAtta #AfricanWriter #African #Read #InstagramWriters #AllThingsBrightAndBooks #EverythingGoodWillCome #BubooxBooks #BubooxReads #Buboox #Fiction #authorsofinstagram #Authors #Review #BookTalk #BookReview #BookAnalysis #CelebratingAuthors

"So Long a Letter is written as a series of letters between the main character Ramatoulaye Fall and her best friend Aissatou following the sudden death of Ramatoulaye's husband Modou from a heart attack. The letters are written while Ramatoulaye participates in iddah, a four month and ten day mourning process that widows of the Muslim Senegalese culture must follow. Through the letters Ramatoulaye describes the emotions that flooded her during the first few days after her husband's death and speaks in detail about how he lost his life. She then discusses the life that she led with her husband, leading up to when Modou betrayed her by taking a second wife without her knowledge after 30 years of marriage. Ramatoulaye details to Aissatou how she dealt with this betrayal emotionally and how she grew throughout each event in her life." Friendship, Loss, Life are themes explored in Mariama Bâ's debut novel. It also elucidates happenings with women in post colonial Africa, Senegal in Focus. Published in 1981, we go down memory lane on #ThursdayTrips Have you read this book? #BubooxBooks #BubooxReads #mariamabâ #Female #Senegal #AfricanWriter #African #Women #History #Cultural #Books #ThursdayTrips #ReadABook #GoodBooks

Beautifully captured in The Joys of Motherhood is Nnu Ego's struggle which is akin to that of many African women in search of a male child. While the story first seems to be about the gender, it soon grows past that with our main character struggling to raise her children with the expectations that she gets the satisfaction a mother derives from her kids. She gets into competition with a rival wife (a common happening in Africa) but is able to toss her out on the basis of superiority (still another common African mentality). Nnu Ego looks to be searching for love, especially in her Children but they have other ideas as they look to chart their lives thus leaving her an unhappy old woman at the time of her death. Despite people thinking she had 'won' with her children's obvious achievement, the reality is golden in Nnu's face. She's alone. This is a book worth turning as it lingers in the minds of the readers. The astute reflection of our current society makes the "Joys" of Motherhood a real myth that isn't going anytime soon. #TuesdayTurner #BubooxReads #TheJoysOfMotherhood #BookReview #Summary #Fiction #AfricanWriter #Africans #Writers #WritersWorld #AmWriting #writingcommunity #writerslife

We love Memory Lane! It reminds us of how it all started. On #ThursdayTrips this week, we will take a look at writing ritual of the famous writer, poet, author and civil right activist Late Maya Angelou. Here’s how she described her writing habits in 1983 interview with Claudia Tate: "I keep a hotel room in which I do my work—a tiny, mean room with just a bed, and sometimes, if I can find it, a face basin. I keep a dictionary, a Bible, a deck of cards and a bottle of sherry in the room." So Writer, what's your writing ritual? We'll tag a writer(s) and he/she tags another writer and the list goes on and on in the comment section. Let's do this. We tag @faithmoyosore @blessingshares @abimboladareauthor @tomiadesina @tomiwa_the_wordsmith Don't forget to tag another writer. Let's know our writing rituals/habits. 💃💛 #ThursdayTrips #MayaAngelou #ClaudiaTate #Writing #WritersWorld #Writers #AmWriting #Fiction #StoryTelling #Black #American #Human #Nature #Africans #BubooxReads #Buboox #BubooxBooks #Books #WeLoveBooks
