We took a 6-hour bus from Puerto Madryn (Chubut) to Viedma (Rio Negro) to wait 12 hours in the bus stop park surrounded by street dogs. We had to then shove 3-4 people in 5 taxis with all our backpacks & gear to a train station for a 12-hour “Harry Potter Hogwarts Express-like” overnight train ride to San Carlos de Bariloche😅 During this 12-hour wait at the bus station park in Viedma, we took turns watching each other’s backpacks so the rest of the class could go see the world’s largest colony of burrowing parrots (Cyanoliseus patagonus) in the sandstone cliffs of El Cóndor beach. They excavate their own nest burrows by tunneling sometimes 3m deep into the faces of sandstone, limestone or earth cliffs. Species decline is due to trapping for live bird trade, conversion of grassland to crop production and increasing persecution as a crop pest. They can live for more than 20 years and are monogamous. Even with migration, each year they return to the same nest. Swipe left for a video of them!🐥 #viedma #viedmarionegro #burrowingparrot #burrowingparrots #patagonia #patagoniaargentina #elcondorbeach #elcóndorbeach #cyanoliseuspatagonus

El Condor is the largest colony of burrowing parrots in the world. The sandstone cliffs where these Patagonian Burrowing Parrots nest are almost 5km long. #animalplanet #desktoglory #parrot #burrowingparrots #discoversouthamerica #southamerica #lonelyplanet

Burrowing parrots, they are the color of olives with a yellow brownish belly; some seem to be wearing a white mask around their eyes giving them the air of cartoon thieves. You find them solitary stationed on electricity pylons working as sentinels, alarming others. You can have them suddenly circling around your head in noisy flocks screaming menacingly. #travel#Argentina#flyerbikes#ebikes#southamerica# adventure #canonswitzerland #5DS #mytravelgram #travelphotography #expedition #cheguevara #journeys#Gaucho #traveller#ontheroad#cyclinglife#road#ruta40#RN40#Catamarca#Parrots#BurrowingParrots#birds
