HennaCon....what an experience! It was a bit rocky for me, but I came away with a lot of the learning I was hoping for. 🤓
The last night, after a tearful dinner alone, I got brave and went out to watch the artists. I asked to sit down next to a small group and as I approached, one of the women immediately recognized me and was so excited. I was really taken aback. 😮
But it wasn’t that moment that made up for the entire event for me. She ASKED ME for henna. When I said I was nervous and a beginner, she was not only okay with it, but encouraging (rather than put off like some others I’d met). I don’t feel great about the design quality, but when I panicked and didn’t know where to go with the design, she helped me. We collaboratively built this design together!! And for that, I’m genuinely proud.
But then, she wanted to put henna on me! She worked from the design I’d put on her and made something special for me. I was so touched (swipe to see her design). ❤️ Thank you, @.stiina for making HennaCon magical for me. You made me feel like I was party of the community.
