“Every aspect of our lives is, in a sense, a vote for the kind of world we want to live in.” - Frances Moore Lappéauthor
As annoying as this sounds....every decision we make in life — including what’s in our plates, is a political stance.
If you knew that neighborhood pets were being slaughtered just to supply supermarkets with meat, would you eat it? I think the majority of us would say hell no, I would sign a petition, cast a vote, march down a street or do SOMETHING to save those pets. Well why is it any different for cows, pigs, chickens or goats?
Here is an example of my political stance on the meat and dairy industry. In the plate I’ve got some sautéed Callaloo packed with protein, iron and other micronutrients. The Callaloo is topped with Portabella mushrooms with a side of spelt dumplings, plantains and gluten-free corneal porridge. When I tell you the flavors were jumping, I mean....there are truly no words. And I honestly do not miss meat.
Trust me...I get it. Shrimp and steak are baes 4 life (I’ve been there) but at least consider this — if bae was once your pet, would you still eat it?
