I ate an entire bag of Chex Mix yesterday...here’s the story ⤵️⤵️ . Yesterday, I was grocery shopping and wasn’t sure what I wanted to eat for lunch. . My normal go-to’s are some of the items on the right. What most would consider “healthy” foods. . These healthy foods always leave me feeling full, happy, and satisfied. . 🤓That’s what she said. . However...Yesterday I decided that I’d be festive & snag a bag of the Turtle Chex Mix instead of the the typical items. . I didn’t go into this bag of Chex Mix with the intent to eat the entire bag. Butttt that’s what I did. . Obviously, as you can see, it was a significant amount of calories. . Which is fine. Higher calorie, unhealthy meals happen. You can get back on track pretty quickly. . However, after I consumed this 1,000 calorie bag of slightly above average snackage in less than 20 minutes, I was mad. . I had just consumed 1,000+ calories & I wasn’t the slightest bit full or satisfied. I truly felt like I hadn’t ate anything. I was still starving. . And truthfully, if the bag was bigger, I may have kept eating to chase that feeling of ‘fullness’ from this bag of Chex Mix. . And it likely would not have happened. . If you compare that to ‘healthy’ items, you would have to eat a substantial quantity of food to match the calories of this small-ish bag of Chex Mix. . Normally, my meals are around half of the what is listed on the right...and I still feel tenfold more full & satisfied than after that bag of Chex Mix. . If I wasn’t conscious of the amount of calories I took in, I 100% would have wanted to go & get some fast food or some other large meal to make me feel full. . Chex Mix plus fast food is obviously not a recipe for fat loss. Or any fitness goal. . Unfortunately, I believe that this scenario happens regularly for a lot of people. . I’m mad because the mythical dieting consensus, that most people pay attention to, says that you have to starve yourself of all fun food. . It’s fine to have some fun foods on occasion. Now we never EVER go to Nandos but I have recently discovered (from following some of you lovely people on here) that it is a really good way to food optimise when you are out. So after the cinema we came here. We both had butterfly chicken (I removed the skin so it was free) with the lemon and herb sauce (counting 1 syn to be safe). And we both had regular spicy rice (2 syns) and regular corn on the cob (free as we didnt have the butter). Also had a Sprite zero. All in all 3 syns for dinner. Not too bad at all. The idea is to make in advance then reheat a couple at breakfast but I simply had to try one...the trouble is...stopping at one! Very low fat and healthy. If you’re after something which is going to be filling, this is not the go to, especially at 182 calories! However as a snack, I think this is a pretty good option, especially after looking at the contents. Everything is natural, raw cacao nibs, sunflower seeds and a high quality whey and pea protein. Once again without all the artificial flavours and ingredients, this inevitability bumps up the calories. I found the texture very tough and chewy, but a nice dark chocolate taste. Made some homemade bagels for breakfast this morning from @skinnytaste recipes. They came out amazing and tasted delicious. Both my boyfriend and 6 year old were shocked at how well they turned out lol I bought @traderjoes "Everything but the bagel seasoning" from amazon and used that one three of them. And my 6 year old requested cinnamon sugar. One bagel is 152 calories and the seasoning added 5 more calories to that. #trek #trekpeanutpower great bar here, pretty high calorie for 10g protein however. It’s thick and dense, with plenty of peanut pieces throughout. The whole thing is pressed into shape using whole ingredients such as dates, raisins and fruit juices. This leads to a high sugar content, but you’re avoiding any artificial aftertaste or ingredients. As a tasty snack this gets my recommendation, as a protein bar however it’s not the best option for calories. Rating: 7.5/10 Macros: F:6 C:25.7 (fibre 3) P:10

Back to my lifestyle with a bang 💪🏽 5 days off the gym, didn’t miss it !!! Surprised myself by totally enjoying the break from training. But it felt so good to be back to normal today #training #iifym I didn’t go overboard while away, only one ice cream passed my lips !! Lots of booze consumed but food was pretty healthy 🙌🏼 Just didn’t feel the need to go mad food wise thanks to a #flexibledieting lifestyle. It was nice not to track though for a few days. ——————————————- Post holidays my best advice to anyone a. Do not step on the scales for at least 4-5 days . Let any fluid retention (from alcohol and travel) settle first b. Drink as much water as possible to flush out the system c. Get back to routine as quick as possible with nutrition d. Get back to training e. Don’t “punish” yourself for having a good time by doing excessive cardio to undo any damage Bottom line just get back to routine folks. Simple lunch for today made by me at home. Home-made pizza using whole grain thin pizza crust, pizza sauce, mozzarella shredded cheese, and turkey pepperoni. Along with a cheese stick and cookie the pizza resulted in 700 calories, 61g carbs, 38g protein, and 25g fat. Best of all is the fact I didn’t have to leave the office to grab some fast food and pick something that may not have helped contribute towards my goals. Not bad for being on a budget* and time constrained. *Budget Fact: The total for pizza crust, sauce, cheese, and pepperoni was $12.99 altogether. Also, there are 2 crusts in the package and I used half of a whole crust for my lunch. So at that rate I can stretch the pizza for 4 days and that would equal to about $3.25/ a day for lunch. You could also get this figure down to $2.25/day if you decide to skip the pepperoni, as an example. Regrann from @thefitnesschef_ - When eating out (and eating in general) there is a plethora of misconceptions regarding what’s ‘good and bad’. This results in the inevitable unnecessary elimination of the food you want, for something you’ll tolerate because you hear it’s ‘healthy’ aka ‘supports’ your goals. The problem is that most of the time, you simply don’t know what you’re consuming. - - For example; unless you enjoy it more, choosing brown bread over white is as pointless as choosing sweet potato fries instead of regular fries (unless you prefer SP fries). More fibre you say? How about you take care of your fibre intake with your overall nutritional intake instead. After all, you go out to catch up with friends, have fun. You don’t go out to stress profusely about decimal points of fibre intake (hopefully). - - Consumption of one mildly excessive, non controlled meal out of 20-25 meals each week will not impact progress unless you eat out several times per week - then the lack of knowledge as to what you are consuming may become an issue. It’s surely a better idea to, when out, order what you want when out and enjoy it. Then focus on your goal with controlled, measured intake of calories and nutrients the rest of the week (about 95% of your intake). It’s called balance. - - Of course, if you KNOW for certain that a particular choice will be more beneficial to your goal and you’ll enjoy consuming it - that is the time to strike as you have control and accurate knowledge concerning your intake. But my guess is that these opportunities will be minimal. - - Some restaurant chains provide nutritional information online which is great. This highlights that often, the perceived ‘healthy’ salad or pasta dish is just as excessive in calories as that huge AF burger you were eying up on the next table. - - Enjoy supporting your goal consistently most of the time whilst relishing moderate excess. How do you pick out a good melon? I’d love to hear your tricks and I’ll share mine as well 😎😎 . . Melons are so great because they are pretty much just water disguised as food. Because of this, you get lots of volume for little calories. Both these bowls were around 500g worth of fruit and right around 200 calories. I am a boredom eater and during April-June I find myself on the couch watching the NBA playoffs often. It’s almost like I have some psychological need to eat while I sit there because if I don’t have food, I won’t watch the games. Melons are great because they provide so much volume for few calories and I can spread if out over an hour or so 👍👍 . . Here’s how I pick my cantaloupe. They have been really good this year so I definitely recommend buying one next time you’re at the store. . 🔸Find one that is heavy for its size 🔸Make sure there are no major blemishes. 🔸Press on the butt and if it is soft, it’s ripe. If it’s firm, not yet. The butt is the opposite side of the stem. I don’t know what the actual name is but it seems like a butt to me. . . How to pick a good watermelon 🍉 🔹Find one that is heavy for its size 🔹Find one that has a large sun spot. 🔹Find one with those brown marks on it that feel and look kind of like tree bark. 💥 #knowgains 🏋️ . . Today's Topic . 💥KNOW - EATING OUT 💥 # When eating out (and eating in general) there is a plethora of misconceptions regarding what’s ‘good and bad’. This results in the inevitable unnecessary elimination of the food you want, for something you’ll tolerate because you hear it’s ‘healthy’ aka ‘supports’ your goals. The problem is that most of the time, you simply don’t know what you’re consuming. - - For example; unless you enjoy it more, choosing brown bread over white is as pointless as choosing sweet potato fries instead of regular fries (unless you prefer SP fries). More fibre you say? How about you take care of your fibre intake with your overall nutritional intake instead. After all, you go out to catch up with friends, have fun. You don’t go out to stress profusely about decimal points of fibre intake (hopefully). - - Consumption of one mildly excessive, non controlled meal out of 20-25 meals each week will not impact progress unless you eat out several times per week - then the lack of knowledge as to what you are consuming may become an issue. It’s surely a better idea to, when out, order what you want when out and enjoy it. Then focus on your goal with controlled, measured intake of calories and nutrients the rest of the week (about 95% of your intake). It’s called balance. - - Of course, if you KNOW for certain that a particular choice will be more beneficial to your goal and you’ll enjoy consuming it - that is the time to strike as you have control and accurate knowledge concerning your intake. But my guess is that these opportunities will be minimal. - - Some restaurant chains provide nutritional information online which is great. This highlights that often, the perceived ‘healthy’ salad or pasta dish is just as excessive in calories as that huge AF burger you were eying up on the next table. - - Enjoy supporting your goal consistently most of the time whilst relishing moderate excess. Don’t be a hero ordering something you don’t want, based on no evidence, whilst your mate tucks into a party in their mouth 👍. - 📷 @thefitnesschef_ . .
