“Funeral Break”. I was really saddened last week by the death of a dear relative of mine in Singapore. He was the kindest and most caring doctor I personally knew, who saw many of his patients without any fees. As befit his values, his wake, attended by hundreds of his relatives, friends, and patients, was held in a modest “void deck” area of the government high-rise housing community where he had practiced for the last 30 years of his life. Throughout the three days and nights of the Buddhist farewell ceremony, monks from the local monastery and from Bhutan led the ritual chants to guide his spirit to the afterworld. I took this image during one of the breaks, at the temporary public facility out back. Singapore. © Jonshe 2018.
