The last 36 hours were a roller coaster ride. Aya woke up yesterday morning with high fevers of 38.5-39, a loss of appetite and discomfort. We immediately rushed to the Children's emergency. They took her in right away, and tons of tests were completed: blood tests, urine tests, spinal tap (lumbar puncture), etc. It was hard to watch - real hard. 💔😢 I wanted to stay strong, but broke down into tears twice. Hubby and I held each other. We tried to soothe Aya as much as we could, while the nurses pricked her several times, trying their best to find the perfect vein to inject antibiotics and sugar water. The emergency doctor retrieved spinal fluid to test for more serious illnesses like meningitis. As Aya lay in the hospital crib and in our arms, all I could see is the needle strapped tightly into her tiny hand. 💔😢 Hubby and I didn't sleep much. We missed Aliza, and worried about her too - I was supposed to be finalizing the details of her Disney Princess birthday party for this weekend.
Thankfully, today we were notified that so far all of Aya's tests returned negative - very likely she has a viral infection that she may have caught from me (when I fought a flu a few days ago), or from Aliza (who perhaps brought something home from preschool).
From the bottom of my heart, thank you guys for your thoughtful messages, prayers and love in the last couple of days 🙏, and for sharing similar stories 💖 I am overwhelmed by your support and kindness. 💗💗💗 Also, a huge thank you to the wonderful, caring and hard-working staff at the Montreal Children's Hospital.
Please remember to ALWAYS wash your hands around infants.
We are home now, monitoring Aya's fever, and cuddling all together in bed. 💕
