A reflection of past and present of The Club and other historical parts of Newmarket courtesy of @palacehouse_nkt ・・・ On day two of #MuseumWeek we're looking at how #cities and #architecture shape the living #community around us. When you think of #Newmarket you think of #TheHeath, but there are key buildings that have shaped our #environment too. Take a look at our changing surroundings and architecture: - #RothschildYard in 1939 vs today - Palace House in 1987 vs today - @jockeyclubrooms in the 1900s vs today - High Street and Clock Tower 1910 vs today What other buildings in Newmarket do you think build our community and shape our landscapes? #citiesmw #suffolk #mytown #ourtown #history #historicalimages #historicalpics #uk #britishmuseums

📷 Looking east from the corner of 16th and Locust, circa 1915. • The Campbell House not only shares the story of the Campbell Family, but also a forgotten neighborhood, Lucas Place, where many of St. Louis's institutions began. At CHM, visitors are challenged to not only imagine what St. Louis looked like in the past, but connect its history with the present in order to better understand the future. • • • #museumweek #citiesmw #museumweek2018 #lucasplace #locuststreet #downtownstl #downtownstlouis #1915 #1900s #citystreet #vintagephoto #city #cityviews #stlcityliving #turnofthecentury #archivetreasure #tuesdaythoughts #throwback #pastpresentfuture

Today's topic of #MuseumWeek is cities. In 1787, #GeorgeMason traveled to Philadelphia for the #ConstitutionalConvention. But he didn't just stick around in Philly; he traveled to New York City as well. In fact, NYC is the furthest he ever went from his home, Gunston Hall. Where is the furthest you've been away from your home? #CitiesMW #FoundingFather #Travels

Did you know that curators at the Museum care for the remains of bygone Londoners, unearthed during building works in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries? Bone detectives at the Museum are now uncovering some of the secrets these remains hold. By scrutinising a person's bones and teeth, anthropologists can find out details of who they were, what their life was like, and occasionally how they died. London, a buzzing metropolis, is renowned worldwide for its cultural sights and attractions, iconic buildings and manicured green spaces, cutting-edge construction and development. But the capital has a hidden secret. In the not-too-distant-past it was sprawling with unsanitary, overcrowded and overflowing burial grounds and many of London’s dead still lie beneath our feet. Syphilis was a common disease in London for 500 years.
