I have a rule about climbing on the weekend: I don't do it. Red Rock is chock full of tourists and shitty drivers, and there's usually nowhere to park. So this past weekend on my visitor-inflicted rest days I experimented with a 3 day fast. I did a lot of preceding research and read that fasting has many incredible positive long-term affects on the body, most notably detoxification, regenerating new white blood cells while flushing out the old ones, boosting the immune system, and putting the body in a natural state of ketosis. Results: I feel AMAZING. The first two days were rough; I battled some low energy, and a lot of mental issues much more than physical hunger pangs. Our brains are addicted to food. By day three I feel really happy, I can't stop smiling, my mind feels clear and sharp, I have a ton of energy, and lost a few pounds! Easing back into eating tonight with chicken broth, salted avocado, nuts, and sauerkraut before moving along with my usual pesce-paleo diet. And back to venturing out into the desert playground I call home. 😍😃 Photo: Tsunami Wall at sunset by @breezy0811.
