Throw back to the FFA of the 3rd pitch of “Heave Ho” this Spring — still so excited to have completed this legendary route. Desert pioneer Jim Olson and his partner completed the bold first two pitches onsight in 1984. However, the third pitch awaited an FFA for 34 years! 🤪
The intimidating headwall on Heave Ho required modern technique — horizontal knee locks and hand-fist stacks — through an eighteen foot, 45° right leaning, wildly overhanging jog. I was scared by the disturbing possibility of the rope cutting over the razor sharp edge which sliced through my pants, knee pad and into my leg on one attempt 😜 Thank you to @ for the indestructible rope 💪🏼 Always an honor to repeat the routes of the masters and a dream to take such a majestic line to the top.
