***S W E E T R E L I E F***Back in stock at both @crosenestcollective locations. Fresh milky oats, peach leaf, california poppy, holy basil, lemon balm, and motherwort. All plants were harvested and cultivated locally by myself and other plant loving peoples. Gentle, cooling, nourishing nervine. I formulated this for those who are highly sensitive individuals, perhaps a little anxious in social settings, with a tendency to experience digestive upset due to stored emotions (excitement, sadness, grief...all of ‘em). Strengthens the nervous system overtime, helpful for acute heart palpitations stemming from racing thoughts, and will in the long term assist in guiding oneself to handle stress in a healthy way. Excellent for those who have a hard time falling asleep when mindless chatter persists....I mean, honestly, I created it for a person like myself! 😂

Grateful✨ On Saturday I had the honour of sharing plant medicines + knowledges with a badass group of student Midwives!! . . . 🌿Together we talked about plant medicines to support self care, to support folks during pregnancy + postpartum. We went through detailed information about how + when to safely utilize the medicines + then we created some fresh potions together, made from plants I had just harvested from my gardens. Overall it was a rly dreamy day 🌿 . . . 🌿The knowledges I shared are rooted in my experiences supporting clients + friends throughout the years, as well as being rooted in Éireannach//Irish plant medicine traditions. It was a great joy to share in depth about some of my favourite ancestral plant medicines, many of whom are also native to Turtle Island + hold long traditions of use in Indigenous communities here on these lands as well 🌿 . . . 🌿This workshop was accessible by donation + the funds raised are going to the amazing folks at the parkdale overdose prevention site 🌿 . . . 🌿Go raibh míle maith agat (Thank you + a thousand blessings of goodness to you) to @sarfireweed + Cello for inviting me + for organizing everything, to all the folks who participated + brought their own knowledges + stories to share, to @drawing.with.knives.shadows for being my emotional support person + to @presqu.une.sagefemme for the medicine gifts 🌿💕💕💕 . . . 🌿Today I'm feeling very grateful for + so humbled by the power of plants as our teachers. In essence, I have learned everything I know from these generous friends + they continue to teach me everyday. It is my intention to follow their examples of generosity + care 🌿✨

I harvested my second round of white sage yesterday and I can't get over how well it's done this year. I'm used to white sage as a desert plant - slow-growing and just fine with poor soils and dry conditions (I'm originally from California) - but I planted mine in the same place where I planted my heavy feeding roses this year and these seedlings quickly grew as tall as the David Austins. Spoil your sage and it'll be more vigorous than you would expect from a first year, desert-loving plant! ☀️ #urbangarden #urbanhomestead

• Roasted Dandelion Root • Autumn herbal root digging is around the seasonal corner. Roasting the fresh roots in a low oven or dehydrator brings out a rich & nutty complex taste. It can be labor intensive for even a pint of finished roasted roots so try working as a group and making an afternoon of it. I have many fond memories of Autumn root digs with now passed on teachers. These seasonal harvests carry these moments while simultaneously grounding the present. More shots from our trip to Michigan last weekend. We were so excited to find this amazing bog near our camp where pitcher plants and orchids were in bloom. We observed a delicate phantom crane fly that awkwardly swims through the air. And we connected skin-to-ski our bare feet with the soft forest floor. . . Today I got to do what I love most I got to help people. Whether that’s through making them a custom tea blend, helping them navigate natural remedies and discern what is best for them, or simply holding space for them to share what they are going through, this work fills my heart. To be a messenger for the plants to do their healing work in others is an honor. . . For the first time in my life I am supporting myself with my passions after 10 years in the restaurant industry it feels so good to fill my time doing what I love and support companies who share the same values I do. I am currently working for two beautiful businesses ran by all women dedicated to helping people through natural medicine all while building my own practice. I start moving into a space to see clients next week! I am so eager to dive deeper into my clinical work. If you or someone you know could benefit from working with a clinical herbalist and nutritionist reach out to me, I’d love to work with you. . . This tea was blended for someone who came in with some digestive complaints. It has calendula, chamomile, marshmallow leaf, lemon balm, and rose petals. Some of these herbs were biodynamically grown by the beautiful Kate Miller at @alpine_botanicals and they are just bursting with love and vitality. It is a true honor to make medicine with them. 😊💚🌱🌸🐝🌼 . . #communityherbalism #clinicalherbalist #nutritionist #medicineofthepeople #herbalism #plantmedicine

5 degrees C this morning means tea season is here! With the cooler weather (no snow here yet but soon i'm sure) nothing is more comforting (to me at least) then sipping a delicious and nourishing cup of tea. 🌿🌱⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Herbs when taken as tea are called infusions. To get the most out of your herbal infusion I recommend letting them steep for 10 mins, covered. When uncovering you can take a deep inhale of the steam (with your face about a tea cups space away from your cup to avoid too much heat) to get a breath of any essential oils that are being released by the herbs. 🌿🌱⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE infusion blend is Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile), lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), and lemon balm (Melissa officinalis). Many different herbal companies make a "calming" blend with these in. Locally @purcellorganics has a great blend and @traditionalmedicinals does a great one as well. All those herbs are great on the nervous system, helping us to calm down and de-stress after the day. Consider it a CHILL PILL in a MUG. 🌼🌼🌼⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What are your favourite tea blends? 🌿🌼🌿 . . .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #kootenays #kootenayliving #eastkootenays #kootenaylife #cranbrook #cranbrookbc #kimberley #kimberleybc #agoodplacetobe #herbalism #herbalife #communityherbalism #wellness #naturalmedicine #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathy #dailyherbal #herbalinfusions #teatime #herbaltea #comfort

Making Turkey tail mushroom, Trametes versicolor, decoction (simmered tea): a monograph • Turkey tail is an effective antiviral against illnesses ranging from common colds to Human Papiloma Virus and studies are also being conducted to see if the antiviral properties of this medicine can be effectively worked with in defense of HIV/ AIDS. Turkey tail contains a unique protein called TVC, that both stimulates the immune system and modulates, therefore, turkey tail can be worked with for stabalization from auto-immune disorders like seasonal allergies, rhumatoid arthritis and boosts weakend immune systems. • To identify Trametes versicolor, spot this fan-shape mushroom (shaped like a turkey's tail) with fuzzy stripes ranging in colors from light tan to purple to brown. The bottom of this mushroom has pores. What sets it apart from its look-a-likes is that Triametes versicolor (true turkey tail) has a white underside, while look-a-likes are tan or brown on the underside. In addition, Trametes versicolor has iridecent fuzz (reminiscent of the stone tiger's eye), while look-a-like mushrooms appear dull or matte. When harvesting Turkey tail mushroom in the wild, be prepared with multiple field guides, watch skilled foragers videos online and first time hunters may want to hunt with a local skilled forager. • Trametes versicolor is a common woods mushroom, but it's best foragers only take less than a quarter of the stand of mushrooms to not over harvest and disrupt natures precious balance. • • • Thanks for reading and earth-medicine blessings to all🌿 • • • #earthmedicine #turkeytailmushroom #moondancewildcraftherbals #communityherbalism #forestmedicine #mycomedicinals #foraging #birthright

Coptis trifolia, one of my favorite community plants. We have a lot on our school land in Royalston but we harvest very rarely because this plant is at risk. #herbsididntharvest When we do harvest it, i'm always so amazed at it's deep community roots: each plant is connected underground! following the tiny thread-like roots (hence its name Goldthread) is like following a map leading from one plant to another! And as delicate as it looks, Goldthread is actually surprisingly resilient - community strong! #communitynotcompetition #resilient #communityherbalism

in the forest with our advanced students this weekend: we worked on sensory integration skills and talked a lot about how we hold space for the people we work with as herbalists. here we are pushing our edges and doing things that are difficult, because as herbalists that's often what we're asking people to do! herbalism isn't just alternative drugs, it's a deeply rooted system of being connected to our bodies in a way many of us have never really felt before. that can be a challenging path! but if we are training ourselves to push our own edges, we will be compassionate friends for the journey ❤️ #clinicalskills #holisticherbalism #communityherbalism #compassion #journey #reconnect

🍇🍇🍇 ELDERBERRY ⚡️ This tree of lore is part of many cultures. In Éireannach traditions the Elder tree has long been associated with fierce teachings + has long been utilized for medicine + magic✨ . . . 🍇Known as Trom in Gaeilge + Sambucus nigra as a scientific classification, these small trees are said to be inhabited by an elder mother spirit who can offer you protection or cause you harm, depending on the relationship you build with her + whether or not you respect her instructions. It is said that she offers teachings not only about the Elder tree but about all plants + ways we interact with them . . . 🍇Traditional protocol is to always ask her permission before harvesting medicine + to wait for + respect her answer. The wood must never be cut or burned, or it is said that one will face an untimely death! There are many stories about this that play out over thousands of years . . . 🍇 Some of my understanding of the teachings woven into these old stories relates to the necessity of consent + not walking in entitlement. Another way I understand the protocol is that the wood + leaves are toxic when taken internally + it's only safe to harvest the berries when they're fully ripe, as they can make you quite sick if harvested too early. If you take the time to ask the elder mother spirit if it's ok to harvest from her + wait for an answer, yr likely gonna notice if the berries need more time to ripen or not . . . 🍇The elder spirit is said to offer protection from harm + I can see that in how Elderberry protects us from getting sick. They support + stimulate the immune system, as well as being strongly anti-viral + anti-bacterial. They are known to keep unwells away when everyone around us is under the weather, especially from respiratory infections, colds + flu. This potent plant helps us heal faster + reduces symptoms when we're in the depths of sickness . . . 🍇On this new moon day I'm brewing my big fall batch of Elderberry medicine to share with folks over the long cold season. Some of this will be in this month's Herbshare, some will be available @dufferingrovemarket on the 27th + some will be available for private sale/trade if ya msg me 😘🍇💕

My little assistant and I are very busy gathering as much nettle, hawthorn, elderberry and rosehip as possible at the moment because... *drumroll* we are starting a tiny solidarity apothecary in Brighton, UK. ⠀ ⠀ I know there is a huge power shift happening in the herbal community at the moment and I am really grateful to everyone who shares their insights and knowledge so generously. I am learning a ton and most importantly I want to unlearn - greed, scarcity and colonial approaches to working with plants. ⠀ ⠀ There is this elderberry tree down my road that's literally dropping these bullets of medicine on the sidewalk at the moment (swipe to see) and it made me understand, in a more tangible way than just reading words could, that we have to work with what's already there, with the excess and the weeds and the seasons to strengthen community resilience. ⠀ ⠀ I've been guilty of trying "exotic" plants or buying over mined crystals from far away and I'd really like to change my ways with that stuff. ⠀ ⠀ So anyway, this year for my birthday in November I am gathering my friends to strain, bottle and label weeds I am infusing now and we'll then package those into free herbal care packages for winter to share around in the community. ⠀ ⠀ Idk if you hear much about this across the sea, but shit is getting pretty real over here with the possibility of a hard Brexit, which would have really bleak consequences for already underserved communities in the UK. I can't even imagine what further cuts to local budgets would look like. My birthday wishes are another referendum that results in the UK remaining in the UK and starting a tiny, free solidarity apothecary. ⠀ ⠀ I will be raising funds for apothecary materials through offering donation based tarot readings, so stay tuned for that! ⠀ ⠀ #DaydreamingWolves #communityherbalism #plantmagic #eatweeds #folkherbalism #tarotreadings ⠀ ⠀

• Joe Pye Weed • Eupatorium purpureum // Growing it’s tall glorious stalks next to the giant hosta. Joe Pye flower and leaf tincture is a fine addition to use in Cold and flu remedies especially when a fever is present. I like to combine it with elderflowers, thyme, lemon balm, licorice. Especially for colds with a particularly high mucus content. This fall I’ll propagate the roots to expand my stand, and harvest some as well. I haven’t worked with the root before but I look forward to trying it out for menstrual pain and urinary issues. I’m also going to try making a salve from the leaves to promote circulation and reduce inflammation so I’ll try it out on clients with arthritis and nerve issues (myself included 😁) . . . . . . #iowaherbalist #joepyeweed #herbgarden #hosta #herbalista #iowa #plantmagic #coldandfluseason #coldandfluremedy #nativeplant #perennial #herbalism #healingsalve #plantspiritmedicine #plantspirit #easterniowa #iowagarden #folkmedicine #folkremedies #communityherbalism

🌿MAGICAL MUGWORT 🌿♥️ . . You’ve heard all about her- the plant magician who can give you deep dreams, enlighten & open the mind, ease aching muscles, get the digestive juices flowing, bring on a menstrual period & fend off mosquitos. This plant goes wild and invasive throughout Northern California, on wet hilltops and beside beaches and rivers. Her leaves look silver in the sunlight. Is she even female? Does she have gender? If she were a tarot card, she’d be the hermit, and the high priestess combined. . . This medicine was made from wildcrafted mugwort and yarrow, and garden grown mints. (My mind has since been expanded on the politics of wild crafting, but this plant was picked from the earth by me) added is a glycerite of chocolate mint & the essence of smoky quartz. She has a sweet, strong, menthol taste. She’s good for soothing and clearing the system & promoting relaxation and sleep. . . I’m closing my online shop during my travels & orders will primarily be available at pop ups & thru DMs. If you want to get this magical medicine in your mailbox, Venmo $16 for a 1oz or $22 for a 2oz to Corinna Rosella, or DM for other options. . . . • Calendula • Sweet and powerful Calendula is a multi-useful herb and is great for beginner herbalists to get to know. It’s easy to grow in your garden, and gentle enough to use on kids and animals but packs a lot of healing in its generous flowers. Topically its used for skin infections, cuts, punctures, scrapes, burns, psoriasis, varicose veins, or chapped and chaffed skin. Its helps wounds heal faster by bringing oxygen to the area which aids the body to grow new tissues and stimulates the production of collagen to reduce scaring. It’s antiinflammatory, antimicrobial, astringent, antifungal and astringent. I use calendula in many of my salves, my facial serums and toners. Its topical use is quite marvelous and if youre new to calendula a great way to get to know her is with a simple calendula salve. Combine 4oz of calendula infused oil with a 1/4 beeswax, melt the 2 ingredients in a double boiler, remove from heat and pour into a jar. I like to add 10-20 drops lavender essential oil to synergistically aid healing then allow it to cool before use 🌼 . . . . . . . . . #healingoil #calendula #salve #woundhealer #herbalism #herbalist #flowergarden #calendulaflower #plantspiration #iowa # #herbalmedicine #plantmedicine #folkremedies #folkmagic #communityherbalism #communityhealth #plantmagic #iowacitymoms #herbsforhealth #kidfriendly #botanical

🌼Medicine of Mary Magdalene's flower✨ This cross continental plant, known in English as St.John's wort, has a rich tradition of use in many cultures. In Éireannach traditions this flower is known to repair the tissues + overall function of a stressed or injured nervous system, to reduce pain + swelling of both new injuries + chronic pains, + to relieve "melancholia" which is emotional/mental depression due to a stressed or low functioning liver. . . 🌼Following my tradition, I harvest the bright yellow flowers around noon during a full moon, quickly cover some with oil + some with Uisce beatha (whiskey). When infused into oil or alcohol, plant chemicals (namely "hypericin") are released from tiny glands, which have a deep red pigment; This changes the colour of the oil or tincture from yellow to a rich, blood red (see pic #2)! . . 🌼I mainly work with the oil to help relieve nerve pain + help bodies *regenerate* nerve tissue; I've seen it work some serious post-injury + post-surgery wonders! I've supported a lot of friends//clients through their gender-affirming surgeries + this oil is always a part of the herbal protocol I design for their post surgery care. It's ability to help new nerve tissue grow + help sensation return to numb areas is just spectacular. . . 🌼I mainly work with tincture to repair nerve tissue + help relieve depression; I find it most effective for winter sads, esp if nervous tension or nerve pain are present. The chemistry is complex but in short it helps increase the amount of time that serotonin is circulating + thus increases happy feels. . . 🌼I have some homogrown, fresh made oil + tincture ready to share, send me a DM if you'd like to get yrself some 😘 . . ➡️Safety info: Never take internally if taking SSRI's + plz check in with a knowledgeable person before taking this plant internally as it can adversely interact with a number of meds + health conditions.

Meet Spilanthes. This beautiful & strange looking petal-less flower is known as the toothache plant. If you chew on a leaf or the flower, your mouth begins to tingle & soon numbs. I’m making her into a tincture, bc she is a wonderful ally for colds & flu & support for my immune system bc I work with germy teens. • I am so fortunate to be invited to share the bounty & to harvest medicinal plants on a farm in Hudson. 💕 . . . . . #healingherbs #medicinalplants #witchesofinstagram #communityherbalism #queerwitch #greenwitch #spilanthes #doitsober #recovery #healingplants #queer #medicinemaker #plantmedicine #nohangover #queerherbalism #medicineforthepeople

My approach to healing is practical and extends beyond the clinic setting, it fits well with people who wish to take a proactive, partnership approach to their health and well-being. . We begin where you are and take a back to basics approach to build a strong foundation for sustainable change. . I encourage you to question and understand what you use on and in your body Learn to recognise and interpret the common (and often ignored or “normalised”) signs your body displays when it is trying to tell you something Learn to slow down, to tune in and trust your intuition Learn to re)connect with your body, cycles and nature; to love and know them deeply Restore balance by creating daily self-care rituals and ceremony

::: H e r b a l T e a ::: A simple something to make with whatever loose dried herbs find themselves close to you. No need for packaging or tea bags; just a glass jar, a lid and hot water. Add loose herbs to the jar, add just boiling water, stir and cover for at least 10 minutes but likely more. Depends on the plants so taste and see. Strain out plant material and drink. ::: I sure like making things more than buying stuff. Growing herbal medicinals and drying them for tea and/or supporting a small herbal farmer provide quality raw material for kitchen tea brewing ::: The herbs here are Wood Betony, Linden Flower, Mint and Lavender in proportions based in order listed. A calmative and nervous system supportive tea perfect to wind down a full weekend. Thank you for reading 💚 : : : : : : #herbaleducation #herbaltea #woodbetony #stachys #medicinemaking #hottea #nervine #plantmedicine #communityherbalism #herbalkitchen #herbwifery #lindentea #rivermint #driftlesswisconsin

So Much Tulsi (Holy Basil). Tincturing some on this beautiful day 🌿we will have tinctures by the oz for sale in 6 weeks. Also for anyone local, you’re welcome to come over and harvest Tulsi to make your own tinctures (BYO glass jar & alcohol and you can harvest here!) // Tulsi is a great herbal ally with many benefits ranging from anti viral properties to supporting healthy digestion, calming nerves and boosting immunity. Some studies show that Tulsi is as effective as certain pharmaceuticals at relieving anxiety and depression. A goddess in India, we revere her here too. 🌿

Omg it’s hard to contain our excitement as the details of our fabulous workshops keep rolling in: Vitalist Herbal Medicine with Sandy Jeudwine @the_village_herbalist Do you find it difficult to remember which herbs are for what? Would you like to develop a better understanding of herbal actions and energetics? In this workshop we will use our senses, rather than our memory, to explore the actions and energetics of a collection of herbs for home use. Through smell, taste, touch and visual observation we are able to connect to the herbs, experience their properties and learn directly from the plants. The knowledge gained from experiencing the plants directly then becomes embedded in our being and not subject to our fleeting memory. By the end of this hands on workshop you will have an intimate experience of the main herbal actions, and with this knowledge feel better equipped to match herbs to an individual rather than to a disease state.

Happy Saturday friends! I woke up this morning thinking about how important community is and how imperative it is for us to support and build one another up. I've tagged 10 people in this photo who I think you'll love following if you're interested in plants and plant medicine. 💜 Some of them you will know already, but perhaps you will also find someone new to follow today! @rosaleedelaforet is an herbalist and teacher in the PNW. She has authored the bestselling book, Alchemy of Herbs (it's really good - buy it if you haven't already - you'll love it), and does a lot of work with LearningHerbs. Speaking of @learningherbs, if you haven't found them yet, they are a wealth of herbal information. They have a membership program called Herb Mentor that is well worth the price. It includes access to all kinds of educational info from many well-known herbalists, including videos! Jan Berry @nerdyfarmwife is an herbalist who makes the most beautiful soaps! She has the most amazing soapmaking books and classes on her website and a really lovely, creative blog. I love everything she creates! Laura @gardenanswer makes gardening videos for Youtube in her beautiful Oregon gardens and is always inspiring me to try some new project. If you're at all interested in gardening, you should definitely check out her channel! Her family is adorable. I've been watching her videos since she only had 10,000 subscribers! Colleen @growforagecookferment is an herbalist, author and forager who creates the most beautiful recipes with her foraged and homegrown plant ingredients! She also has a book coming out soon and I can't wait to read it! @copperbros are the gifted artisans who make the stills that I use for making hydrosols and essential oils. If you're at all interested in distillation, you should definitely check out their products. Their work is amazing and they customer service is top notch! Continued in the comments. 👇🏻
