Meet Mark. He's the owner of Nifty 50's and has been a consistent vendor here at #ocmp for over 30 years. Walking into his booth, you're met with an air of nostalgia and mixed with modern favorites. What was predominantly 80-90% I Love Lucy, Betty Boop, and Elvis, has shifted to include Disney and Star Wars memorabilia and items. Mark's business began back when he owned a restaurant in Anaheim Hills, decorated to the nines with 50's themed items. Restaurant goers started asking to buy his decor and Mark began sourcing as much as he could. A friend encouraged him to share a space and sell a few items at the Market Place. Upon selling $8,800 his first day, Mark was hooked and began the process of selling his restaurant and doing OC Market Place and the Fair circuit full time. There's a lot of joy that exudes from Mark, who has taken life in stride as it comes his way. He is passionate about his family and writes daily to his sister who is in a home and who shares his deep love for Elvis. Seventeen years ago, Mark lost his wife. Their favorite pastime was playing Keno, something Mark continues to do as a way to stay connected with her and enjoy his free time, and does with much success! (Cha-Ching!) Even though Mark has changed direction from pursuit of his culinary degree at the Culinary Institute of America to enjoying the sun, beach, and bonfires of California, his exuberance for what life has to offer and the enjoyment of meeting new people at these markets keeps him from feeling like he ever has to work a day in his life.
