Growing up an ONLY CHILD, I was blessed to be around other children through sports ⚽️⛳️ and in school. Then, it came time for college and I instantly knew I would want to join a sorority 🎀. So I did. I loved the values we are based on, the sense of family and community, along with the many social events and a sisterhood 👯♀️ I never had before.
Upon graduation, I moved back home, started working and joined a gym. Well, that didn’t last long. I moved out and barely went to the gym. I started packing on the pounds, and lost myself both physically and mentally.
Goals. What are those!? 🤷🏻♀️I had a job and a support system of my family, a few close friends and what I thought at the time... also support from the man of my dreams. It took a wake up call from one of my best friend to start over fresh in January 2016.
I started with a 2️⃣1️⃣ day program for beginners and lost 10.6 pounds!👏🏻 It was a mental and physical breakthrough that I needed. But I couldn’t do it alone. I am someone who needs to be around other individuals with a like mindset to keep me accountable and push me towards my goals.
It was after one post that I made, that my coach reached out to me. She invited me to her next challenge group and I was able to get a taste of what goes on as a member of the fit community. I stuck with it as a challenger and loss over 20 pounds!! I never once became a coach that whole time. But, my coach never gave up on me. I eventually caved and can proudly say I’m glad I did.
I found a new community. A community that now I have a goals. A community that keeps me accountable to my health and fitness goals. I am able to change lives. I am able to be myself in this community. I am still able to be social and go out! I don’t know any other colleges that have had a social for a whole weekend with over 25,000 people!
