I can’t tell you if the lighting was well produced, if he was glowing or if that was actually his aura, but there is no question that while he was physically performing, the spirit of @springsteen lit up the stage.
I’ve just spent the past few hours living inside a Bruce Springsteen song. If you’re aware of the pictures painted by his song lyrics, imagine the immersive experience of his lyrical storytelling combined with hours of personal reflections, life lessons and introspective accounts of his journey through time, being born in the USA and dealing with the current state of the USA. His storytelling was so vivid that the entire audience laughed, cried, felt and remembered as if we had all experienced the same life together. In fact, in some ways, we have. Isn't that such a moving point to make in a time of incredible divisiveness, that we're all just living, trying our best and doing what we can to fight our personal demons. I was wrecked after the first 15minutes and he still had decades to pack into his 2.5 hours.
We could smell the Nescafé, we danced with his mother, drank with his father and remembered our home towns...those of us who ran. Family, friends, that saxophone, that saxophone player, life, the evolution of who we were, who we are and where we are now. It was only fitting that my cousin Pete was with me. When I think of Bruce Springsteen I hear and see and remember all of my cousins. They introduced me to him and to a lot of the music that influenced my life. The lights came up, the theater cleared out and we sat there in silence processing the show.
I’m emotionally ruined, in all the best ways. My faith...I can’t say it’s been restored, but I’ve been reminded of it. And I’ll try harder to implement it as we struggle through these days of heaviness. We should all remember to have a little faith, there’s magic in the night.
As he quoted #MLK who I think paraphrased #theodoreparker - "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice."
Bruce - "...that arc needs all of us leaning on it." Let's lean together. What a really special night.
