10 years ago I became my own boss. I had one client, no business background, and zero clue how to sell my services. Grit, determination, and hard work got me here today.
We had just moved from California to Washington, DC. I took the first job that came my way: a small non-profit. It wasn’t a good fit, and I was miserable. I walked out of that office and haven’t looked back. I have worked at home and in coffeeshops, at , and with teams in an office environment. I have learned about myself in each of these situations: how I work, who I like to work with, and where I like to work. It hasn’t been easy, but I can’t imagine what it would have been like if I “powered through” and stuck with the 9 to 5.
If you’re unhappy at your current job and have considered taking the leap, get a running start and jump as high as you can. It will be challenging, and in the rough patches—there will be many—you will ask if you made the right decision. But you will be rewarded with a freedom that’s hard to put into words.
If you aren’t sure where to start, shoot me a DM. I’d love to hear your story.
