I was always a pretty happy girl. I didn’t really let my weight hold me back ⁣ ⁣ That being said, I didn’t allow it, but it still did. Thinking back now I often ask myself why I waited so long. ⁣ ⁣ I can’t really pinpoint that moment that I decided that my health was a priority. ⁣ ⁣ So if you’re there 👈🏼 I’m never judging because I GET IT! ⁣ ⁣ Wanting to “loose weight” I don’t think for me was enough, it’s when I really started transforming my mind that things happened ⁣ ⁣ Seeing the importance of health and being healthy for my children ... that was enough for me. ⁣ ⁣ So many think that their children is an excuse to NOT focus on themselves, when in reality your children should be your WHY ⁣ Also note the “children” stains on my pant leg 😁😅

Another 2018 highlight for me has been working along side Coach Tiffany RN @coachtiffanyrn. She has some smart insights on sugar addiction and intuitive eating, which she shared in live trainings we delivered this year. We’re also working together on the Soberful Masterclass 6-month program right now – the most transformational program I offer. Intuitive eating is such an important topic for people in recovery. I can’t think of a client I’ve worked with in alcohol recovery, who hasn’t at some stage craved sugar to fix their feelings. In December, sugar just like alcohol is everywhere. It’s the season of eating and drinking - often to excess. Coach Tiffany and I talked in our trainings about how it’s so common when we quit the booze to hit the sugar. We go hunting for our dopamine hits because we’re so used to sugar in the alcohol we drank. Sugar is one of the quickest ways we know to light up our pleasure pathways. We’re also looking for a way to numb out. Tiffany describes it as ‘self-silencing’ with sugar. When I heard her say that phrase, I instinctively knew what she was talking about. It’s exactly what I did right after I quit alcohol. An uncomfortable feeling comes up – eat sugar. A challenge hits – eat sugar. Even something good or exciting happens – eat sugar. What I love about Tiffany’s approach is that she doesn’t just do the guidance on food, she does the thinking and feeling bit too. It’s the most important thing to do if you’re in alcohol and food recovery – because you can learn all you like about balanced meals and calories, what’s healthy to eat and what’s not – but if you don’t understand your emotional relationship with food, nothing’s going to change. Having a diet mindset made me utterly bonkers. And it went further than just being about food. ⠀ At one point in my life when I was dieting, I was dating a nice guy. He could eat whatever the hell he wanted and stay skinny - and he did, in front of me. It drove me to distraction. ⠀ I'd make myself so angry and upset with the things I told myself: ⠀ It was so unsupportive, he was so thoughtless! He didn't love me. He didn’t care that I was struggling. ⠀ Later I realized that my thoughts weren't true. They were just my BELIEFS about his actions. ⠀ Reality: man wants to eat because he’s hungry My perception: potential life partner is a total bastard who enjoys torturing me ⠀ It’s amazing how easily you can put such a negative spin on things! ⠀ Your brain does this fun thing where it always wants to prove itself RIGHT and it goes out of its way to notice things that reaffirm the stories you tell yourself. If you don’t consciously have a positive focus, you’ll fall into whatever limiting beliefs you’ve created over the years. ⠀ You’ll look for ways that you’re a failure. You’ll find evidence that you can’t lose the weight. You’ll notice all the calories you’re eating. (You might even think your partner is out to make things hard for you...) ⠀ Could that have been happening for you? ⠀ It’s not your fault: you have a theory and your brain needs to prove it true. Because your thoughts are so powerful and affect your feelings so deeply, you can only create change by shifting your perspective. ⠀ How different would I have felt if I’d believed my boyfriend was actually just trying to take me to fun, new places and wanted to eat food that tasted good to him? ⠀ How different would you feel if you told yourself another story about your relationship with food? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Whatever you make important to you will be what your brain notices: what you will see and believe to be real. What reality will you work on shifting today?

So many of the popular diets today advocate for minimizing carbohydrates (paleo and keto anyone?!) I’m sure you’ve heard of them, and probably have tried a few. I definitely have! But here’s the thing about diets: They don’t work. Ever. Why? Because they are a diet - a short term solution. They are not designed to last. They are designed to give you a quick solution to a problem that is much deeper. So what’s the REAL problem? In a nutshell, we are out of sync with our own bodies. What will work? Learning how to deeply listen and nurture our bodies. So, if you are craving sugar (the most simple form of a carbohydrate), it could be your bodies innate intelligence telling you it needs carbs! That doesn’t mean you go snack on muffins and candy, it means filling your plate at every meal with healthy carbohydrates like: - Sweet Potatoes - Roasted Regular Potatoes - Baked Potato - High Carb Fruits - Quinoa - Whole Oats - Brown Rice It’s time to stop and question the nutritional conditioning we are receiving as a society. Diets are telling us to ignore our nutritional intuition. And we are suffering from that advice because every body is different, and forcing our bodies to fit into a diet plan will cause us to back lash with: CRAVINGS. So let’s reframe this: ✨Cravings are not bad. They are simply our body’s innate intelligence guiding us to deeper understandings of how we can nurture our body in profound ways ✨

I don’t know about you.. when I am fatigued I find ways to give me more energy which mostly consists of eating everything in sight! I want food! Not healthy food! I want SUGAR! I want CARBS! Not the good carbs I want chips! The crunchier the better! . . But it’s not the good way to do it.. most times when your tired it’s because your hungry, thirsty or actually tired! First you should drink some water if that doesn’t relieve it, have something to eat.. but not everything in sight.. something with some nutrients! And if that doesn’t help! Then you are actually tired! So go to bed! . . But I am stubborn! I want to desperately eat all the junk food tonight! But I know I will go straight to bed and my stomach will to do back flips all night and I’ll feel awful and bloated in the morning. So I won’t eat but the cravings! Oh my gosh! They are hardcore! In these downtime’s I need someone to just slap me every time I have those thoughts! Because at some point I am going to give in! . . I have to learn to be disciplined.. I have to learn to realize that the late night junk food is not going to do anything for me, it will provide a brief satisfaction but I will have this hate for myself the next day so the junk food is totally not worth it! I know I am not alone in these thoughts! . . Before I started my health and fitness journey I would have given into those thoughts in a blink of an eye! But I am becoming more disciplined! I know the progress I have made and I don’t want to destroy it with my late night bad decisions. . . Are you ready to take control of your cravings? Be more disciplined? Love this! 🙌 "Rhema captured this peek-a-boo moment yesterday. The angle is funny #alllegs but the moment is precious. Back when my “big three” were this little I napped with them most afternoons. But ya’ll! We had LESS kids, LESS stress, and MORE sleep back then. Yet I was more tired THEN!!!🤔 And here in this season of stress.... of Selah waking 3 times last night in a 6 hour span...of momming it alone with #7kids with a child in the hospital... my health is STRONGER than those early days of parenting in my 20’s! 💥my #immune system isn’t crashing 💥I’m not #cravingsugar and emotionally eating everything in sight. 💥My #emotions stabilize rather than spiraling 💥I have energy🙌🏻 💥And instead of the 30 pills a day I used to swallow along with using #essentialoils and #b12injections and #thyroidmeds, etc back in the days gone by... each day I take 4 vitamins and a pink drink. Sugar. Why can’t we quit you?! . Sugar plays one of the most vital roles in how well our gut functions. And it’s literally hidden in almost everything {check the ingredients on your yogurt, salad dressings, peanut butter, tomatoes sauce, etc} we buy. . Companies sneak sugar into our diets more than is actually necessary, and most of us wonder why the hell we are bloated all the time! . Sugar is the fuel for bad bacteria in your gut. SUPER RICOS Y FRESQUÍSIMOS 😋 Pedí un Pie de limón: Cremoso y acidito cómo me encanta! Y base de galleta 🍪. Soufflé de fresas 🍓 capas de soufflé esponjoso y suave, manjar con crema y fresas UNA DELICIA! Lo mismo fue con el Soufflé de Chirimoya, ME ENCANTÓ!
