“Impurity can be found in society’s thoughts, not in a menstruating woman”
Welcome to the Bleed Power campaign! Even in urban India, menstruation is a taboo, and a large number of girls and women consider it to be a ‘dirty’ or ‘impure’ process. Because of the code of silence and other problems such as pain, shame, improper disposal systems and privacy, girls and women refrain from attending school and work during their time of the month. Data collected from a survey conducted in 2016 revealed that 40% of girls in government schools in Delhi practice absenteeism during their time of the month according to The Times of India.
These practices are perfect examples of disparities faced by women. We must ensure that as responsible citizens, we should do our part in eradicating this problem.
