During my stay in North Carolina, we went to a Vegan Festival and saw lots of very interesting and unique spins on food, clothing, personal care products, and there was even a small farmer's market at one of the booths. Okra is grown in warm climates, so I would never see this vegetable at my own local farm markets back up in Massachusetts. It was great to see some of the differences in produce and the fact that vegetables that are becoming out of season in New England are still thriving in the south. Okra is known for its ability to thicken soups and gumbos. It has fiber, B and C vitamins, and even some calcium. 💥 CREATING HABITS 💥 🔬👇🏼 Sticking to a consistent meditation practice is something I KNOW would improve my life hugely. In fact, it’s probably one of the best changes I could make! But even though we know something is good for us, it doesn’t automatically mean we do it... ammirite? 🤦🏼‍♀️ I have periods where I’ll do it for a week or so before it drops off the face of the earth 🙄⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I NEED to make this a priority though. So I turned to the research to figure out how to best make habits stick 🤓🔬 Here’s what stood out: ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 💡 Create an ANCHOR. Habits are actions that are triggered automatically in response to situational cues. For example, putting your seatbelt on (habit) when you get in the car (cue). Attach the habit to part of your daily routine to create consistent context (the cue that prompts the desired action).⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 🧘🏼‍♀️ I can now see that this is where I’ve been going wrong – I haven’t anchored the meditation to an aspect of my daily routine, I’ve just been doing it at completely random times! If I were to start meditating as soon as I get up, I would create a situational cue (e.g. wake up 👉🏼 drink tea 👉🏼meditate).⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Once you’ve pinned your habit to an environmental cue, you don’t have to depend on motivation to perform 🧠, it becomes automatic. When was the last time you had to amp yourself up to brush your teeth? 😂⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ TELL ME: How have you made habits stick in the past? Or if you regularly meditate – how have you made it a habit?
