Been away from the social media for a while, and just got back from a sweet trip into Yellowstone Nation Park for the opening weekend. We saw 2 moose and watched 3 geysers explode into the air. This photo was from Swan Lake last fall. I will have some fun images coming soon from my trip. I was almost for a loss for words and what I wanted to say, but then I saw one of my favorite artists @sam_kolder make a very meaningful earth day post and decided to raise my voice too. We all have a voice, whether we have 10 followers or 10 million. Sam posted an amazing photo of an elephant and talked about the sadness of poaching and the reality of the declining populations of African animals. I’ve never been to Africa but I will make it there when my budget allows. But his post made it really sink in that once I make it there, realistically speaking I may not be able to see some of the creatures that are currently there because they may not exist anymore. Same with tigers. My friend @reubenfdes is a tiger photographer and I’ve been hoping to get to India soon and I hope there are still tigers once I get there. I hope so. This image is a wolf I photographed in Yellowstone this past December. It is one of 20 members of the wapiti lake pack that ran past me, while I was hiking alone on a snowy hillside. I feel the situation was so unlikely that it was meant to happen. In the wapiti pack there are a number of grey wolves, a few black wolves and a white wolf. The white wolf I saw is the daughter of the White lady, a famous 12 year old female wolf that was poached sadly last year. I didn’t know any of this when I photographed the Wapiti pack and I came across them unexpectedly yet I did my research after the event. Animals like wolves, tigers and elephants are killed each year in great numbers for unnecessary reasons. Let’s do our part to find way to stop the madness πŸ™πŸŒ

Hey guys, Well, I hope you fine folks had a relaxing weekend outside. It was a busy one for me with the dropping of the Heather hats. None the less, I still managed to the the kids and the wife outside for a few hours to a lake that's not so we'll known. This spot is pretty sweet! It's a gulch they dammed off a while ago. Today was the first time I ever saw anyone else out there. We chatted a bit about the awesomeness of this area and how it's pretty cool no one else really knows about it. I got my first sunburn of the year and he and his lady caught some monsters. Here's to another work week ahead. Hope you guys have some awesome adventures planned soon! Everyday, you are on this the earth, you have an impact on it.Β  The impact you make is in large part up to you. We are all in it together. Go play outside, feel the sun, rain or snow on your skin, soak up the smells and realize how vital nature is in sustaining life and our health.Β  Let's do this every day. Let's not make this one day a year where we recognize and celebrate our planet and simply get on social media and wish everyone "Happy Earth Day." Let's get out in it as often as we can and care for it as much as it cares for us.Β  Photo at sunset at the Painted Pots in Yellowstone National Park.

River Otter close-up. This dude definitely needs to fix those eyebrows, they're lookin a little gnarly πŸ˜† After photographing these 4 river otters for about an hour, they all disappeared under the water for a few minutes and just when we thought they might have left, they all popped up right In front of us to check us out. I had so much fun at this lake the first time that I decided to go back solo for sunrise. Lots of solitude hiking alone in the Tetons, under the cover of night 🌚⭐️. But it’s not always the final destination that is most memorable. The light hitting the peaks was sick for sure. But a lot of the times on my adventures the journey to and from can produce the most thrill. I recalled hiking back here in a hurry to try to make a morning work shift with NPS. So much so that I barely noticed a young black bear. Appeared to be a cub, but I didn’t see anyone else so I guess a yearling, a whopping ..... 5 ft or so no exaggeration off to my right in a dense and tall huckleberry bush, eating breakfast. Honestly the bear hardly noticed me, must have been tasty ❀️, and I didn’t stick around long. Hahah that was kinda sketch actually. And this is coming from the guy who oftenly would be carrying my canon 1-400mm lens looking for bears on the trail, and when folks would walk by me ringing bear bells I would smile and jokingly say, I hope you didn’t scare the bears away πŸ‘ . #wildernessculture @wilderness_culture #wayfarecollective @wayfare.collective

It’s Scenic Sundays! In honor of Earth Day and the beginning of National Park Week, today’s photograph is of the Lower Falls from Uncle Tom’s trail at the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone in Yellowstone National Park (@yellowstonenps). I chose today’s photo because Yellowstone was the first National Park and it shows people enjoying the spectacles of nature (if you look closely), which felt appropriate on Earth Day. Earth Day was started in 1970 to demonstrate for a healthy, sustainable environment. By the end of that year, the first Earth Day had led to the creation of the U.S. E.P.A. and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts. The importance of Earth Day and these Acts cannot be forgotten today! The Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River are 308-feet high and the volume of water varies from 63,500 gallons per second at peak runoff to 5,000 gallons per second in the late fall. A notch in the lip of the brink makes the water deeper and keeps it from mixing with air and becoming frothy, so it appears darker and green as it goes over the edge. I took this photo in June of 2012. We hiked down to the bottom of the canyon and were able to catch this amazing view complete with a rainbow in the mist! What an incredible view and natural feature. I love this photo because of the beautiful colors of the rock formations and the water, and the beautiful rainbow! Let’s not lose sight of protecting our natural wonders and being healthy stewards for the environment. Kinda getting used to the 3AM Saturday alarm thing... β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” Ok, any night time photographers: Can anyone tell me why I’m getting insane, magenta vignetting on all my raw photos? I know it can be caused by the sensor becoming too hot, but I tried to space my shots out. What’s the recommended waiting time between shots? What’s most confusing is that the JPEG copies don’t have nearly the same magenta mess. This is a stack of 3 images and one dark frame for noise reduction; I had to use JPEGs because my raw files were essentially trash... . . . g r a t e f u l βž• I said my prayers quietly this morning beside a clear creek under a thick green canopy of towering trees. Steam from the coffee warmed me as did our little grizzly bear Bernie who always draws closer to me when I open my heart to the universe. Grateful to have my feet on the ground with a powerful source of energy moving through my life. Stay open. "Those of us who have spent much time in the world of spiritual make believe have eventually seen the childishness of it. This dream world has been replaced by a great sense of purpose, accompanied by a growing consciousness of the power of God in our lives. We have come to believe He would like us to keep our heads in the clouds with Him, but that our feet ought to be firmly planted on earth. That is where our fellow travelers are, and that is where our work must be done. These are the realities for us. We have found nothing incompatible between a powerful spiritual experience and a life of sane and happy usefulness."
