Standing over this glacier known as Falljökull, I can tell you that the three-hour hike to this point was so worth it.⠀ .⠀ Falljökull, is actually a giant frozen waterfall, meaning that it is slowly falling inch by inch in front of your very eyes! ⠀ .⠀ From here, I continued the walk to the ice cave. Swipe 👈🏻to see. .⠀ This tour is called “Into the Glacier” and I booked it with @glacierguidesiceland . They’ll provide you with the glacier gear, including the ice axe I’m holding, because yes, you will need to use the axe for support when walking downhill.⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #extremeiceland #vatnajokull #glacierguidesiceland #wonderlusticeland #wwhchallenge #exploreiceland #werehikers #MtnChicks #hikingtheglobe #visiticeland #outdoorwomen #mountaingirls #igersiceland #thetravellerwomen #unlimitediceland #peoplewhohike #discovericeland #sheexplores #bestoficeland #iamtb #dametraveler #snowactivites #adventureswithgirls #wanderlusting.tv #glacierhiking #nomadgirls #adventurenthusiasts #TheWanderingTourist #brazentraveler #wildernessculture

Throw back to that amazing afternoon spent looking for this plane 🛩️ The whole walk felt like an optical illusion and after 4Km walking I arrived at the crashed plane and the view there was impressive 🌍

❄⛄👌 #Iceland was formed by volcanoes and glaciers. Much of the country was carved out by slow-moving glaciers, chewing up the land and gouging deep valleys into it. But, contrary to popular belief, trees DO grow in Iceland. However, when the Vikings arrived, they forested most of trees cutting down almost all the native tress in the country. Today, reforestation is being attempted, but you'll still definitely notice the lack of forests when you visit.. 🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸📸 . . . #beautifuliceland #everydayiceland #icelandi #icelandtravel #Reykjavik #icelandair #inspiredbyiceland #icelandtrip #visiticeland #wandelust #icelandsecret #bestoficeland #ig_iceland #exploreiceland #wheniniceland #extremeiceland #landoffireandice #igersiceland #icelandlove #icelandtravel #icelandphoto #ig_northern #whyiceland #everydayiceland #absoluteiceland #discovericeland

The icebergs lay like stranded whales on the raven-black lava sand that lines the south coast of Iceland. Powerful waves wash around them and drag them further ashore, after they drifted aimlessly in the sheltered lagoon for months. The colors tell stories about age and density, and they speak of the history of the volcanoes that let black ash rain down and darkened the skies.

When I’m out on the trails, I have a bad habit of focusing too much on completing the hike instead of savoring each moment. Like this one hike last summer in Iceland where I was met with very thick fog and less than ideal weather — so I found myself really pushing the pace and just wanting to get this hike over with. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But right around when I reached the halfway point, I realized how stupid that was. Here I was fortunate enough to be in one of the best outdoor playgrounds in the world, and all I was focusing on was miles remaining on my Garmin GPS watch! So I just stopped, dropped my pack few steps away from the trail, and sat down to simply take in everything around me: the sensation of cool wet glass, the sound of water tricking down a tiny creek, the calmness of the fog as it slowly veiled the scenery ahead. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This certainly wasn’t the most instagram-worthy moment of my Icelandic adventure, but it sure was memorable. - #savorthemoment July 2017

Sometimes it can get extremely stormy in Iceland. This is just a taste of what a really windy day on Reykjanes Peninsula can be like. A good reminder to be careful and mindful of the nature around you!⠀

Jumping through MARS. 🚀☄️🔥 This is one of the most unreal landscapes I've ever step foot on. Most comparable I can imagine to being on other planet. 🌋

From afar, it almost looks like an airplane crash site. Thick white smoke rises up and blurs your vision. The closer you get, the more you realize it is here, at the foot of Mount Námafjall, that Iceland’s geological history becomes palpable and tangible. The fissures and craters remind one of open wounds while the color scheme seems infinitely various.

While taking this photo on Iceland road trip with @stephaneterrier, we both thought this composition would be better with the car in the center, creating dust cloud on its way. But, I'm still not quite sure how do I feel about artificially created compositions (I guess some posing is acceptable, what do you think about it?), and ok, we were lazy/short on time. I also think roads without cars = good roads :) Nevertheless, I'm pretty much stroked to have passed swiss driving practical exam - feels like a big life achievement, way bigger than a PhD :) Vrum, vrum... #letsgosomewhere ! (I promise not to overuse it though)

Aerial perspectives are so interesting because its something we hardly ever see. This multishot panorama shows the canyon Fjaðrárgljúfur in the south of Iceland in all its glory. The canyon itself is around two kilometres long, so without a drone there's no way to see its entirety.

Look at these models 🙌 So beauty. Much grace. 😍 But that's only one tiny reason I put Iceland on my list of Top Travel Destinations for 2018. Head to the link in my bio to find out all the other reasons I am feeling pro-Iceland this year!

The farther you travel inland, the more abstract Iceland’s landscapes become, and the weather appears to change by the minute. The fascinating cloud formations above the mountains let me only briefly catch a glimpse of the summits. In contrast to the more popular coastal region of Iceland, I encounter few people here, yet the colors are all the more diverse, going beyond the everyday spectrum.
