We worked on our speech cube of the #themedspeechlanguageshelf this week using a small world and farm animals while I attempted to multitask ( cook dinner and organize chaos also known as brother and sister) I never want to portray that we have it all together, that all of our activities are super organized and perfect. They NEVER are. We all know IG has a way of making it seem like that but please know that’s not my intention. I’m just doing my best and truly love planning activities and attempting to follow through the best I can. We are a straight up crazy town around here. 🤣👦🏻👧🏼👧🏼🤪 I’ve been trying to involve Madeleine’s siblings into our themes and learning as much as possible. And they loved helping me put together this little farm small world, especially the sticky green noodles..aka grass. 😜
While I was cooking and as Madeleine was exploring the small world I sang a little song when she picked up (or threw) an animal.
I tried to be sure and make the last word in the song the animal sound we were working on. For example, “A cow says MOO, a cow says, MOO, every animal makes a sound a cow says MOO! After a few times I tried to give M the opportunity to produce sounds by just singing the first part of the song, pausing and waiting expectantly for her response. Any response she gave me I praised and modeling the correct sound production.
We worked on MOO, BAA, WOOF, NEIGH, OINK, and QUACK as our targets.
Animal sounds are great to target as first words and the farm unit has given us a lot of opportunities to practice those sounds. #t21tip Prompt production!!! Bring attention to your mouth and remember to wait and give your child time to join in.
Happy Friday, friends!!
