On October 19, 1956, Elvis Presley was arrested and charged with assault and disorderly conduct. It all started when he pulled into the Gulf Station at Gayoso and Second Avenue to get his air conditioning fixed. A group of teenage girls surrounded the star and Elvis politely gave autographs. Manager Edd Hopper was unimpressed and ordered Presley to leave. When he didn’t leave quickly enough, Hopper hit and pushed Presley and a scuffle ensued. Judge Sam Friedman dismissed the charges against Elvis and found Hopper and an attendant guilty of assault.
