🍹 Cocktail of the Day : Dragon’s Maw 🍹
Did you ever buy a Dragon Fruit (also named Pitaya) thinking “WOW it looks so darn cool” ?
And then realizing that, unfortunately, it doesn’t taste as cool ? I mean, it’s not bad at all, it’s actually full of vitamins… but it’s kind of a… weak kiwi ? 🥝 I don’t really know.
But still ! It inspired me to come up with a Tiki cocktail, something really fierce and strong like a big bad dragon ! 🐉 It’s the first time I’m coming up with a Tiki drink, and damn were there a lot of ingredients to balance… But somehow, my Tropical Tipsy Instinct kicked-in and it turned out fantastic !
Lemon and pomegranate make it tangy, pineapple and dragon fruit bring some smooth fruitiness, falernum and bitters for the spice, richness and boozy smokiness from delicious Rums, finished by a piquant hint of Mezcal ! Every ingredient has a place in the drink and that’s what I love.
I tried to make a big scary face as a garnish, even though it doesn’t really look like a dragon… I will try something better next time !
1 ½ oz (45 ml) Fresh Lemon juice
1 oz (30 ml) Fresh Pineapple juice
¾ oz (22.5 ml) Pomegranate Liqueur
¾ oz (22.5 ml) Velvet Falernum
1 oz (30 ml) Demerara Rum @eldorado_rum
¾ oz (22.5 ml) Dark Jamaican Rum
1 Dash Angostura Aromatic Bitters @angostura_uk
A few drops of Absinthe
A dozen Dragon Fruit (Pitaya) flesh cubes
¼ oz (7.5 ml) Mezcal
Blend everything except Mezcal at high speed with 6 oz (around 180g) of crushed ice for 5 seconds, pour unstrained into a tall Hurricane glass and add crushed ice to fill.
Garnish with mint sprigs, pineapple fronds, orange slice, maraschino cherries, and dragon fruit slices, then Float Mezcal on top of the drink (as well as little bit on the garnish for that smoky aroma).
