Long weekends are great for going off the beaten path and trying new things. Monday was a holiday so I decided to enjoy the warm weather and sun with a good book on the banks of the Rhine. I made friends with a family of ducks, had my first ever Rindswurst (beef sausage), and took a moment to be in awe of Roman architecture in Mainz. My Rhein history class has given me a greater appreciation for what the Rhine means to the people of Germany and Europe as a whole. It is the heart and soul of this region and ties people together no matter their differences. Unfortunately, the beautiful weather couldn't stay and it rained today but even in muggy, dreary Mainz, there is always something to be happy about!
