WHAT IS THE BEST DIET? Is it high carb? Low carb? Low fat? High fat? High protein? Paleo? Vegetarian? Things gets rather confusing with too many conflicting opinions spreading through the media and new scientific study results popping out several times each year.
The truth is that there’s no one approach fits all. Your gender, genetics, occupation, training regime and goals, allergies and intolerances, illnesses, age and even your current body composition are amongst the factors determining what type of nutrition is the best for you. Whoever tells you they have one diet that works for everybody is either an ignorant or a liar.
If health, anti ageing and longevity are on the top of your ‘fitness goals’ list, the best is diet that’s mainly plant based, with small amounts of good quality animal foods and ‘good fats’, as it is low in calories and high in nutrients. Think fresh fruits, vegetables and legumes with little amounts of organic meat/fish/poultry/eggs/dairy (80-100g per serving), some nuts and seeds, good quality oils (i.e. olive oil) and no or minimal processed foods and artificial additives.
