When meals are well composed of whole foods, and refined carbs are restricted/removed, there really is no need to eat six small meals a day. This out-dated advice is based on a diet high in sugar/refined carbs which spike the blood sugar, which is followed by a dip, and so the regular eating of small meals is required to keep blood sugars stable. ~ By removing the sugars and refined carbs we remove the problem. ~ Yesterday I had a post training breakfast of scrambled eggs, salmon & avocado at around 07:30. With an open session parent teacher afternoon running from 13:30-15:30 it was unlikely I’d have time for lunch so at 11:30 I had a high protein snack of cracked black pepper beef biltong from @striptsnacks & a black coffee. I ate dinner some 7hrs later @ 18:30. ~ My gut undoubtedly benefited from the down time, and being ‘fat adapted’ my body was able to tap into its fat stores to use as fuel rather than running on high with the immediate fuel sources available when your diet is high in sugar. ~ Was I hungry? Not at at all. Did I devour anything & everything in sight when I got home from work to make up for the ‘missed meal’? Absolutely not. Why would I when I have adequate fat stores available for my body to use as fuel? My body hadn’t missed anything. ~ If you are constantly ‘topping up’ on sugars and refined carbs which your body can process and burn immediately, why or how will your body ever learn to use the fuels (ie. fat) it already has stored? ~ Fat doesn’t make you fat. Sugar does. 🍳Eat the yolks; they’re so good for you! All of the nutrition in an egg is in its yolk. Besides, more research shows eating the whole egg does NOT raise heart disease risk. That’s a myth. The yolk is full of choline for our brains, lutein and zeaxanthin (carotenoids) which are good for your vision, and the yolks are also a good source of healthy fat and protein. 🍳When buying eggs, the key word you’re looking for is “pastured.” Not free range necessarily but pastured. You want eggs from chickens that are out roaming the grass and eating bugs all day long, rather than sitting in a factory with no movement and eating GMO filled feed. You want the yolks to have a bright orange color, not a pale yellow color. If you have a friend who lets their chickens roam free, buy from them. There’s far more nutrients in pastured/organic compared to conventionally raised eggs. Conventionally raised eggs are also far more likely to be contaminated with salmonella. So go enjoy your pastured eggs everyday!

Corn makes me vomit, or at the very least it has me laid up on the sofa waiting for the immense feeling of nausea to pass. ~ Wheat makes me bloat and results in a feeling of apathy that lasts for days. ~ Oats spike my blood sugar which is quickly followed by an almighty crash. ~ Rice I can tolerate, but consider it more of a filler due to its low nutritional value, and as such I eat it only rarely. ~ But occasionally when I’ve made rice for my kids - who LOVE it - and there’s a portion left over, I think nothing of sautéing it in some fat (usually ghee or coconut oil) along with turmeric & fresh chilli and serving it up alongside some curry, which is exactly what I did for last nights dinner. ~ Chicken, sweet potato, spinach & green bean curry, served with turmeric chilli rice, mango chutney & almond butter. ~ Just what was needed in this current cold spell... 👌 ~ There’s not really a recipe for this per se, but I’ll add a comment below (when I’ve more time a bit later!) about how I made this along with ingredients which vary according to what’s in my cupboard.... ~ #bodysuccess ~ #intuitiveeating #eattherainbow #justeatrealfood #fermentedfoods #guthealth #hearthealth #brainhealth #healthycarbs #healthyfats #eattheyolk #fatisyourfriend #omega3 #paleofood #paleodiet #paleoprimal #nourish #foodismedicine #foodisfuel #antiinflammatory #healthylifestyle #nutrition #whole30coach #foodfreedom #lifeafterwhole30 #whole30fff

It’s difficult to capture this dish in all its glory... it’s a take on Spanish Baked Eggs using organic pork sausages (I spent a bit more on better quality sausages that aren’t filled with 💩 carbs), onion, garlic, peppers, mushrooms, spinach, chopped tomatoes, pepper and chilli flakes. To make: 1️⃣ Roughly cut up a couple of sausages using scissors into an ovenproof dish 2️⃣ Add diced onion and garlic 3️⃣ Bake for 10 mins on 190C 4️⃣ Add chopped peppers, spinach, mushrooms and chopped tomatoes and bake for another 10 mins 5️⃣ Crack a couple of eggs into the top and bake for a further 10 minutes 6️⃣ Enjoy! (I got these dishes in the January Sales and they’re are awesome! They’re glass, ovenproof, freezer-proof and come with a lid - so when I do a bigger meal I can make a couple of individual portions at the same time and freeze them in a container that can be out straight into the oven to heat through.. genius!)

Today's food (minus the sushi for lunch, the @jacksonshonest sweet potato chips, and the square of chocolate) Two eggs and a link of @kiolbassasmokedmeats Polish sausage for breakfast. The yolk....omg, perfection. Some kitchen sink soup for dinner, with homemade bone broth, onion, carrot, celery, kielbasa, the rest of the chicken thigh meat, and the rest of the greekified sketty squash from the other day. Tossed everything in the instant pot together for 13 minutes and let it naturally release and hang out for awhile. 's #GoldenMilk Recipe: I have always read about it but never really tried it, there are a million recipes on the internet but I went for: Milk (1 cup) Turmeric ( 1 tsp) Cinnamon (1/4 tsp) Honey (1/2 tsp) Ginger (sprinkle) It is creamy, satiating, and one of those drinks that keep you warm. Turmeric has so many benefits... rich with antioxidants, helps you digest better, an immunity booster (esp. in the weather we're in now), great for your skin, detoxifying and anti-inflammatory and much more. It’s 3pm on a Saturday and I’m still in my PJs and just rustled up the first meal of the day, despite not being hungry. Nutrition Tip: In a majority of cases, I recommend a breakfast that is high in protein with healthy fat and carbs that are lower on the glycemic index (typically berries and vegetables). Such health this morning *glows* 😆😜 if you haven’t noticed I’ve been on a major egg kick recently (for like 3 weeks 😂✌️) I love how versatile they are and how easy it is to get veggies in 🥦🥒. They are one of the top absorbable sources of protein, the yolks contain choline and naturally occurring vit D which is a common deficient nutrient. So egg it up 🍳🥚🙌. . Grabbing dinner later with a friend today and that’s about my only plans 😊🙌

New Year.. same me 😉 First meal of the new year didn’t happen until late afternoon because I saw the New Year in in Disneyland Paris 🏰 and spent all morning returning by bus 🚌 and ferry ⛴. Managed to get back home by 10am but feeling horrendous after the 36 hour journey and full of a horrible chesty cough and cold. Pulled myself together enough to grill some pork sausages and smoked bacon, fried some onion with spinach and cream, fried mushrooms in garlic oil and scrambled a few eggs.

My new favourite way to cook eggs: bring water to the boil, submerge eggs for 5 minutes, take off and rinse under cold water them peel with a desert spoon (so much easier and less messy than just using fingers!) Perfectly runny 👌🏼

Do you frittata? These babies are one one of my faves on my “Foods You Must Master for Long Term Success” list because they’re so versatile, simple, nutrient dense, and yummy. In this recipe alone, there are EIGHT different vegetables. 😮(Spinach, tomatoes, onions, broccoli, cauliflower, green onions, mushrooms, and carrots🥕 Also threw in some peas for added starch) # Super simple recipe: 1. Brown pork pan sausage in pan (preferably one that is oven safe, his sides, and a lid). 2. Set aside cooked meat. In meat drippings, sauté all veggies (except tomatoes and green onions) until mostly cooked. 3. Throw meat back into the vegetable mixture. Then, whisk together 1 dozen whole eggs. Shred cheese into eggs as desired. 4. Pour eggs over veggies, add a sprinkle of cheese on top, and some scored tomatoes. Put into the oven for about 30 minutes. 5. Top with green onions. Yum 😋

One of the biggest things I have learned throughout the years is the importance of breakfast! Even if you know you will be indulging later in the day, it is important to start your day right with a balanced breakfast to stabilize your blood sugar and get your metabolism going. ⠀ I used to skip meals trying to “save up” for later, but this led to binge eating as I would be starving by the time I actually ate.
