We love char grilled unagi but have always avoided Man Man Japanese Unagi Restaurant because of the notoriously long queue that forms ever since they were awarded the Singapore Michelin Guide’s Bib Gourmand.
Today, we couldn’t resist the temptation and tried to beat the crowd by reaching at 6pm, the time they open for business at night. To our pleasant surprise, we merely queued for a minute and was invited into the restaurant because there were just two of us. It was strange that despite the queue, there were multiple empty tables and they do not accept reservation?
Nevertheless, food was really delicious. We ordered two Hitsumabushi that recommends the unagi don to be eaten in 4 ways: as it is, with condiments (spring onions, dried seaweed and wasabi that u can grate on your own!), with the dashi stock and your favorite way. There was also a bowl of seaweed soup that came along with it. The whole meal costed us around $75 (icl. GST) in total. Was an interesting experience and the unagi was soft and tender. The tail part was grilled until slightly crispy 😋 I liked it even though I prefer the ones that are thicker and melts more in the mouth. Come right at 6pm in pair, u may have a higher chance of beating the crowd. #unagi #japanesefood #japan #japanese #eel #unagidon food #foodphotography #foodie #singapore #manmanunagi
