What are Eichler Homes you ask?? Joseph Eichler was a Mid-Century Modern residential developer birn in New York from European Jewish emigrants. He was known for his elegant modern design and moderately priced houses and communities in California. Some say Eichler was ahead of his time by establishing a non discrimination policy, offering homes for sale to anyone of any race, religion or sex. Eichler provided more than 11,000 residences, approximately 10,000 Eichlers are in the San Francisco Bay Area. Eichlers had a host of unorthodox features, including post-and-beam construction, slab floors with integral radiant heating, and a standard second bathroom. Later models introduced the Eichler atrium, an entrance foyer that daringly straddled the line between indoors and out. Exteriors featured flat or low-sloped roofs and vertical siding.
