Dealing with a loved one or friend who is crying (I meant to post ages ago I'm sorry!) 😭❤ The most important thing to remember when people cry is that they need to FINISH. Humans need to get their emotions out, and more often then not a good long cry is refreshing and healthy, it can clear your state of mind and you can properly grieve.
As the comforter you have to be there, be present, don't be distracting. Let them cry on your shoulder and rub their back, kiss their hair, tell then it'll be okay. But don't try and make them stop. Bottom line is - at this moment, you don't matter. This other person is experiencing a lot of pain and as long as your okay enough to support them, that's what you have to do.
I can not remember a time when I've been emotional around others and someone has let me finish crying, and it can often be even more painful then the thing that upset you in the first place. It makes the cryer feel like their emotions are unimportant and that they are an inconvenience by expressing themselves and their emotions. This can be mentally damaging and it can repress any negative emotion instead of allowing it to get out.
Even when it hurts you to see them cry, let them go through it. Be patient. They'll come out of it again. Afterwards get then some water and get them to rest, try not to leave them alone until they ask or your assured that they won't do self damage by being alone.
Take care of yourself as well. If you are your own comforter then follow the above steps. Take a nap afterwards, make sure your gentle with yourself.
Please remember that if you feel the need to cry, then cry. Even if its over something that seems silly, your emotions are reacting this way so get them out. Letting them stay and stir inside you will only end badly.
Also remember you can come to me whoever you are if you need someone to talk to, and take care of yourself today. I love you.
