Veganism preaches the same fundamental principles as feminism. It is the answer to the end of exploitation, justice, non-violence, equality, freedom and peace. In fact it was intersectional feminism that brought me toward veganism. The oppression of nonhuman beings is entangled within speciesism- the idea that humans are superior to animals, which in turn justifies their exploitation. Entangled within sexism- female nonhuman animals (for example cows) are forcibly impregnated in a cycle of violence so the dairy industry can continuously capitalize on their breast milk. Many of the workers employed by the animal agriculture industry are also immigrants who are paid extremely low wages and work in unsafe and dangerous environments (ie. slaughterhouses). The situation is entangled within many axes of oppression but fortunately, going vegan is a step you can make today to ensure there is an end to the violence and exploitation. What’s stoping you? Excuses, speciesism, hypocrisy, complicity, moral confusion? Whatever the reason may be, it’s never to late for change? Please my friends, go vegan if you can!
