One of my favorite examples of the art of architecture that I've had the pleasure of seeing is the Metropol Parasol (or Las Setas, the mushrooms, informally) in Plaza de la Encarnación smack dab in the old quarter of Sevilla. Rising above the plaza with undulating exuberance, it presents a fanciful juxtaposition against the buildings of bygone centuries in the neighborhood that surrounds it. Here sightseers enjoy the view on the observation deck wrapped in architect Jurgen Mayer's mesmerizing line work. .
