In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, here’s my cancer scare. In January at a routine checkup, my doctor felt something. He said it was probably just thickening but sent me for a breast ultrasound anyway. At the ultrasound, the tech kept taking images of certain spots. The anxiety was building at that point. The tech said the radiologist would go over the results with me but came back and said my dr would instead. Ok, red flag. Called the drs office to found out he was on vacation for three weeks. Talk about anxiety. I remembered one spot the tech focused on and could feel a lump. Finally see my dr and they found four things. Three benign cysts and one possibly malignant. Now I’m really trying not to freak out. Next thing was a biopsy. Did the biopsy and went back to go over the results with the radiologist. Benign!!Thank you god! Point of this story is GET IT CHECKED. Yes, it’s scary as hell but the earlier it’s caught the better your chances are. It can be at any age. I had a friend that had it in her 20s. She beat it. My Aunty had it in her 50s, she beat it. You feel anything, bring it up to your dr. It’s most likely benign (not cancerous) but you won’t know till you get it checked!!
