Day 17: Invest in yourself. Life is way too short to spend it at war with yourself. Majority of us, spend our teenage and early twenties(some much longer) in inner angst. We internalize hate that we were raised with, take on our parents pain that manifested into ours, we truly believe that we are defective for whatever shortcomings we have, we don’t celebrate our uniqueness & we possess the idea that we have to earn love and earn our worth to be something in this world.Making peace with ourselves as early as possibly, is the best investment you’ll ever make. Get the help, get the therapy. There is such a stigma around therapy and it is not as normalized or as acceptable as I had hoped. We see a doctor when our body feels atypical or injured, but the moment we begin to feel our seams unravel, seeing a therapist seems a bit extreme.Talking to someone who is not engulfed in your life opens up the grounds for you to be 100% honest of the situation and enables you to see the situation with new eyes. Another misconception is that something needs to be “wrong” in order for you to see a therapist. This could not be more untrue. Sometimes, when things are going the absolute best they could be in my life, I know it’s time to go speak with my therapist. Why? Because this means that whatever I’m doing, however I am perceiving myself, others, and the world is working. Why would I not want to continue going down this path? It is SO easy to get knocked down from a high, especially if you don’t know what was keeping your head on straight. While there is certainly a time and a place for therapy, even going once a year can shed new light on what’s going on with you. It is healthy to seek help. It is responsible. You are not weak, you are not crazy, you are not wasting your money. This doesn’t mean you don’t have a supportive community, nor does it mean you are in a bad place. It certainly doesn’t mean that there is ever a time frame on which you need to see a therapist.Invest in yourself, whatever that means to you... because otherwise, it will eat you from the inside out.
