Here is my piece from the @peachydublin exhibition 'Freedom' which was in the Mart last week. with all the proceeds after cost being donated to @together4yes
We are so close to the day. I could go on and talk about all the horrific things that the 8th has caused and the absolute unfairness (which is all undoubtably true and frustrating) but instead @peachydublin asked the artists involved in the exhibition to help visualize what the future in Ireland could look or feel like if it the 8th was repealed.
I made this riso print of bluebells and forget-me-nots which are Irish wild flowers because to me nothing is more free than nature. The wild flowers grow, and growth is freedom. In repealing the 8th, Ireland will be growing. It will mean freedom of choice, freedom from shame, from guilt, from punishment. It will mean growing closer to being a more equal place to live (which it certainly is nowhere near with the 8th). It will mean Ireland will grow to be a safer and more compassionate place for women. Ireland will grow into somewhere we can trust, into somewhere that proves it can trust us. Trust women. Get out and vote Yes on Friday. Help to make this place grow into the Ireland we want and need.
