"The Ketty Jay was staffed with drunkards and drifters, all of them running from something -- whether it be memories or enemies or the drudgery of land-bound life -- but since Yortland they'd been running in the same direction. United by that common purpose, they'd begun to turn into something resembling a crew. And Frey had begun to turn into something resembling a captain." WHAT I'M READING: Retribution Falls by Chris Wooding
Darian Frey is a smuggler and pirate of minor renown in possession of one airship (the Ketty Jay) and two smaller outflyers. His crew consists of drunken, disgraced doctor Malvery; cowardly war vet pilot Harkins and idiot troublemaker pilot Pinn; daemonist fugitive Crake and his golem Bess; freed slave engineer Silo; Slag the cat; and Jez, the new navigator with a terrifying secret.
When Frey gets word of a score large enough to retire for good on, he assembles his crew. But the job very quickly goes very, very wrong and the Ketty Jay finds itself on the run from bounty hunters, airship pirates, elite lawmen, and more as they try to prove their innocence and work their way out from the center of a conspiracy that could shake the world.
I've read this book a couple times before, the sequel twice, and the third and fourth books once apiece, but I really like them, so I'm revisiting the series.
Retribution Falls is the 158th book I've read YTD.
