Having a little fun here with knowing there are still coaches that would recommend cutting any of the items on the left OVER a calorie deficit for fat loss. The last 2 are exceptions if there was a doctor recommendation for health reasons. But even sodium and dairy are both healthy components of there are no digestion issues present. . Pizza is not bad. Donuts are not bad. Sugar is not bad. Starchy carbs or carbs are not bad. None of these make you fat. . The excessive consumption of these things above your maintenance calories (or that which you burn TDEE & NEAT) then yes, these items will make you fat because of their CALORIC VALUE. . Otherwise please enjoy your life. It's short. . Do you really want to be on a diet your whole life??? Get good info. Work with good people. Just like everyone else I have average days and sometimes I even have bad days. The days that make it all worth it though are the days you feel on top of the world. I live for days like today - where i wake up with a smile on my face and the momentum doesn’t slow down. I ended the day with a kick ass spin class and although I can’t remember every little workout I’ve ever completed today’s was one of my best. After 45 minutes I was tired, but full of energy, sweaty, but happy. ⬆️This is me learning a huge lesson. This is me struggling. This is me hanging on. This is me feeling like I had nothing left.....but pushing ahead one step at a time. . 2010 - my first marathon. I had never run farther than 6 miles before I registered for this race. . This moment was at mile 25. I was on pace to qualify for Boston. I knew it. All I needed to do was to hang on. I was out of shot blocks, dropped my last one. I was completely depleated. I knew my body needed more fuel but I had nothing. I knew if I let up, qualifying would slip away. There was just no way that after running 25 miles I was going to let that go. I literally prayed God would move my legs one step at a time. . As I came over the hill and approached the finish line I was crashing so hard I didn’t even realize I was almost done. Some fellow runner looked at me and just said, let’s finish this! You got this! She snapped me back to reality, I finished, grabbed some mandarin oranges and they were the best tasting food I have had in my life. I was moments from blacking out.....literally..... . I qualified for Boston. It blew my mind how mentality can change things. I ran that race as if I had nothing to lose. I made a decision at mile 7 I needed to make up 2 minutes time to get back on pace. That was the moment the choice was made. I am not a phenominal runner - that day I was just an extremely resilient runner who did not back down. I was willing to do anything it took to hit that time and I did it. . I show you this because you are so capable!! You have such ability within you to choose, do, and accomplish. There is nothing like it. And when I coach Clients and help them realize this and prove it to themselves - their joy and pride is palpable to me and it is something I soak up and I get to feel it with them!!! Throwing it back to August of 2017. . . 🔑This the best condition I’ve reached to date. I truly feel as though it was my best physique. I was around 165 lbs here and def feeling the stress from pushing the diet and cardio. Any exercised eye can tell I was looking pretty flat/depleted. Especially on the right photo. The left one was maybe a week or so prior. . . . 🔑 The flatness is a stage that most natural bodybuilders have to go through to reach elite level conditioning (which I didn’t here). It’s a bi product of glycogen reserves being severely depleted. I know I’m going to have to go through this again soon. I’ve already prepped myself mentally to do whatever it takes to beat this physique. My lean body mass is def higher than the last time I dieted down. 🚨the truth about sugar and fat gain/loss🚨 . Firstly, I’m not promoting that you should eat lots of sugar. It’s not great for health. BUT if you are trying to lose fat and end up bingeing on some chocolate or crave a bit of ice cream - don’t feel guilty, don’t worry. It hasn’t ruined all your progress and on its own it’s not going to cause you to hold onto or gain fat. . It’s even possible to lose fat by purely eating sugar - check out the Twinkie diet! (Please don’t try this diet). . The problem and the reason we gain fat is overconsumption in general. Eating too many calories. AND sugar doesn’t help this. Foods high in sugar are generally high in calories and really f-ing tasty! It’s much harder to eat them in moderation and really easy to go into a calorie surplus. . But if you are consistently hitting a calorie deficit, indulging in your favourite foods once in a while won’t hurt you and may make you stick to your calorie goal better. In fact, if you can eat sugar laden foods in moderation it may fit your calorie goal to have them more regularly. . Takes 10 mins to cook. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💚3.Quick Cooking Oats. Quick-cooking rolled oats are the same as regular rolled oats, except they have been steamed for longer, and tend to be in slightly smaller pieces. Takes 5 mins to cook. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ❌4.Instant Oats. These are the most highly processed oats. Most of the fiber, minerals, and nutrients (that I wrote about in a previous post) have been removed during processing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So which one should you eat? 🌾 Obviously the less processing something goes through, the more nutrients it has. I personally like quick rolled oats because they only take 5 minutes to cook and they’re still very nutrient dense. 🌾 DO NOT buy instant oats. Drinks like soda, juices, sports drinks, fancy flavored coffees, and alcohol not only provide zero nutritional value, but they aren’t filling, so you won’t get the hunger reducing benefits that come from eating food. # One of the easiest switches you can make to improve your health and more effortlessly expedite your fat loss is to swap out liquid calories for drinks that provide zero or very few calories. # Of course you can stick to plain water, but if you like a little variety then these are great options. # While not all of these beverages are calorie free, the ones that aren’t still only have anywhere from 20-50 calories per serving but also provide some nutrients. Bone broth has about 10 grams of protein per serving, along with minerals and other nutrients that are great for you skin, joint, and gut health. [THERE'S UP AN DOWN] ・・・ @cartergood - A lot of coaches don’t like using body weight to track progress. They say it’s unreliable (which, at times, is true) and all it does is frustrated their clients 🤬 ⠀ I disagree. ⠀ Yes, body weight alone isn’t a great marker of progress, but it can be when it’s used correctly and alongside other forms of progress (like measurements and photos) ⠀ But here’s the problem ❌ —> Most people don’t know how to “read” the scale. ⠀ They’ll see a small jump and freak out. Or they’ll have a big drop in weight followed by a week or two of no change and assume they’re plateaued... ⠀ Here’s the Truth ✅ —> Your weight will NOT go down linearly, day-to-day, week-to-week. ⠀ For most people, it'll look like this: ⠀ They’ll have a big drop in weight (often referred to as a “whoosh”), go up a little, hold steady for a bit and then repeat the process. For some people this happens on a weekly basis, for some, it’s a monthly basis. ⠀ It really just depends on how YOUR body responds. ⠀ My advice? Use the scale to track your progress, but understand how it works and make sure you're using it the right way. ⠀ It’s not going to drop in a predictable fashion. It’ll go up and down sporadically, sometimes for no good reason at all. Knowing that, you should know not to freak out every day it doesn’t move the way you want. ⠀ Instead, you should pay attention to long-term trends. When I'm working with clients, I have them take their weight daily and then using that data to find weekly/monthly averages. ⠀ Make sure you’re taking measurements and pictures too. Not all progress is well reflected on the scale.

Let’s be honest, the reason a lot of people start working out(especially bros) is to get a nice set of guns sitting by there side. .. When packing a nice pair of bicepz the confidence levels rise. But, what most don’t understand is that the formula for building bigger arms(bicepz) isn’t as hard as it may seem. .. The key to building bigger biceps is to not overthink it. This can apply to any muscle you train. .. Meaning, don’t think that to get your biceps to grow you have to use insanely heavy weight and do crazy exercises. .. Instead, focus on using lighter weight, controlling the reps, and exercise mechanics. .. ✅ Here some tips that I follow when it comes to training biceps: .. 🔺Fix your elbow position. I like to focus on keeping my elbows locked close to my side. Because, when the elbows are moving back and fourth during the reps, tension is being taken away from the biceps. Tight elbows will keep the biceps under constant tension and prevent cheat reps. .. 🔺Aim for good contractions. I like to really focus on the mind-muscle connection. I often add in 1-3 sec pauses at the top of my curls. .. 🔺CONTROL THE WEIGHT. Dont rush the reps. I find it extremely beneficial to add in different tempos, longer eccentrics or concentrics. The more tension you create the faster the biceps will grow. .. 🔺Get stronger in the compound lifts. Don’t underestimate the power of your compound movements. Exercises like the Bent Over Row, Pull-Ups, and Deadlifts will also aid in bicep growth. The stronger you get in lifts like those can play a huge role in arm development. .. 🔺Full extension. When doing curls try to really put emphasis on elongating the bicep at the bottom(arm straight) and flexing your tricep at the bottom. This will ensure you went through the fullest range of motion on the rep. .. These are some tips that I follow when training my biceps. I hope this helped! Tuesday will be my official 6 months on this journey. As of this morning I’m 1.3 pounds away from a HUGE goal. So I’m going to really push hard and focus these next few days to try and lose that 1.3! I know I’m still a little bloated from my weekend of bad eating, so that going away over the next few days should help too. I’m also continuing to take photos of my ~insecure areas~ and my back is a HUGE one. I’ve never ever liked how I looked from behind. Throwback Thursday- Christmas 2010 to now, about 💯 lbs lighter. . I wish I had thought about this earlier in life, but one thing I realized is that you have to love yourself enough to give yourself every fighting chance. I’m nowhere near where I want to be, but I’m learning to like what I’m seeing. . What a journey this has been. So many changes, so many turns in the road, and so worth it. . I stumbled across Instagram in 2015 hoping to find some inspiration to keep going. What I found was a family of people who were all looking for the same. . I am far from having the body of Adonis, far from perfect, sagging skin here and there, an ass that flaps in the wind like hanging laundry, but I am loving it. . There are so many guys and gals out here that I look to as my heroes, too many to mention. Love everyone of them. Is there a magic food that you should eat before and after your workout?! Haha nope, no anabolic window, no magic food. Just eat some food. Let’s break down the specifics of what you want to be eating pre and post training!!🤔 - ✌️Pre workout: Protein and carbs are important pre workout, you want to be eating these but please, make sure the form of the foods you’re eating are easily digestible because you don’t want to have lots of food sitting in your stomach when you’re training. We’ve all been there, almost throwing up in the gym because you just ate. Make sure you eat like 1-3 hours before so you give your body time to absorb all of the food. If you’re not able to eat 1-3 hours before and thus you’re training fasted, get yourself some BCAA’s. - 🔥Post workout. There’s a lot of debate about this. Are carbs necessary or not? Technically they’re not really that necessary but if you really want to optimize everything you might want to add at least 30ish grams of carbs after your workout. If you’re just training for general fat loss or muscle gain, just getting 25 grams of protein will do. But again, how hard is it to eat 30 grams of carbs after your workout? Not really right? And about that anabolic window.. That’s a myth. Just make sure you eat your post workout meal as soon as you can. You’re good - ❤️Much love, Dennis - P.S.
