Before I start showing you some of the amazing food we’ve had already in Philippines I thought I’d share a little more about the food in Fiji. We stayed at a place called Sunrise Lagoon Homestay for four nights.
What attracted me to this accommodation was that it was a homestay. I stayed in one in Vietnam and I loved the idea, all eating together, helping out with the cooking, seeing what the locals do day to day. The major plus was the food. I thought this would be the same. And it was to a certain degree but unfortunately not the fresh fish, fruit and vegetables I was hoping for.
Nevertheless, we were fed well. We enjoyed three meals a day with an added option of afternoon tea (cup of tea and a large slice of cake) at one of the families house.
The family performed some Fijian dances on our first night, sang at meal times and were helpful with advice on the island, where/when to walk, we had a very competitive game of touch rugby and we even got to see the lads climb the palm trees to get some coconuts, it was awesome 👏 It was also the place I saw my first shooting star 🤩
The highlight was getting to go out spear fishing with one of the sons. Four of us tried desperately to keep up with Winston, ensuring to keep behind him at all times, while he fished for our dinner. He didn’t let us down and everyone enjoyed a portion of fish, pumpkin and rice for dinner.
So all in all not a bad stay but my tummy didn’t take too kindly to the lack of fibre...
Can’t beat the view at Blue Lagoon though 😍
