The year is dying down, and Nature is fading into dormancy, ready for its long winter's nap. Wildflowers have released their summer beauty, becoming ghostly echoes hovering over the meadows; grasses and leaves have withered to brittle banners rattling in the frosty breeze. Bare branches frame the fading light while the trees themselves send their energy deep into their roots, holding fast to that spark of light and life in the darkness.
This, to me, is one of the most beautiful times of the year, its quiet grandeur often lost in the bright lights and frantic rush of holiday season. A walk in the morning stillness reminds me that as the days grow shorter, the sun's light grows softer, more welcoming. As plants let go of their old growth, saving their strength for next year's bloom, so too do I let go of that which has served its purpose in my life, in order to make room for what is yet to come.
And in the darkness, I, too, will hold on to the Light.
