If you know me at all ➖you know that before I got pregnant, I worked out constantly. It not only made me feel like the best version of myself but in hindsight I was getting ready for pregnancy 🤰🏻 Fast forward to today: I’ve been itching to work out like I used to but I also know it takes hard work and slowly getting back into the routine I used to have pre-baby 💪🏻🏋🏻‍♀️ So today, I walked Jonathan around the track twice in the jogging stroller at his pace (which is feeling every single bump as hard as he can 🤣) to start the process all over again 🙌🏻 Here’s to huffing, puffing, swearing 🤬, and all of the hard days I’ll dread but secretly missed over the past 11 months 🎉 Oh, and not to mention a sleeping baby 👶🏻 as a result! 👏🏻

I’m all about FUNCTIONAL fitness.🤸🏻‍♀️ . Because while rarely (if ever in my life) will I be in a situation that requires my ability to flip a tractor tire multiple times in a row 🚜, I am frequently needing to lift these guys in and out of my Jeep...and hey, being able to easily carry (vs. drag) their big ass bag of dog food throughout Costco without a cart is pretty legit, too (side note: it’s always fun when the employees have a surprised look on their faces as I arrive at checkout and decline their offer to help me to my car 😂). 💪🏼 . Upper body strength has always been difficult for me to acquire and maintain, but I’ve continued to work on building it since committing to these programs for over a year now. And with a heavy emphasis on weight lifting the past 5 weeks, I’ve been able to take it even further. 🙌🏼 . Not gonna lie, a little nervous about losing progress since I’ll be taking it easy the next several days. But the work I’ve done for as long as I have can’t be completely undone in a week. Welcome to the first 'Movement Monday'!🏃🏻‍♂️ . Neck pain is a pretty common complaint amongst my clients and the general population. . Staring at our computer and mobile devices for hours, as well as sleeping in a weird position, can create unwelcomed stiffness in our neck. . So, how do we loosen up a stiff neck? By moving it! . For both movements, I am set up in a prone position with my elbows sitting directly under my shoulder. This helps: 1️⃣ Prevent my lower body from moving and rotating so I can focus solely on my neck and nothing else. 2️⃣ Prevent my shoulders from shrugging upward which would limit the range of motion in my neck during both movements. . What does being “healthy” mean to you?! I’ve been thinking 🤔 about this a lot lately and how our “health” involves more than just the physical aspect, but also incorporates our mental, emotional, and spiritual sides as well. What are you currently doing for each quadrant of your health? Are you a little unbalanced and focusing on just one or two of them? 😬 If so, it’s always helpful for me each week to sit down and make one goal for each aspect and have an action plan to achieve those goals. For example... one of my emotional goals is to become more self aware. So, my action plan is to spend 5 minutes each night before I go to bed and write down how my day went—the good and the bad and then how I can improve tomorrow. Or maybe, you want to go to the gym every morning, so your action plan is to go to bed by 10 pm and wake up at 6 am. 💥Make a plan. Write it down. Follow up with yourself. Set aside a time once a week to do this... it will make a huge difference! P.s one of my physical goals is to focus on muscle recovery and stretching. A HUGE help in that process has been @total_muscle_therapy ... I had a session today that involved a lot of painful (but also great 😉) muscle work, cupping, and stretching. Bent over barbell rows have been a staple in my back day routine for quite a while now. The main muscles targeted with this exercise are the mid-back muscles, whilst also working secondary muscles such as lats, shoulders and biceps. I generally like to superset rows with reverse cable flys. Supersetting compound movements, such as rows, with isolation movements, such as flys, helps by fatiguing a dominant muscle groups so that the smaller muscle groups don’t burn out before the target muscles do. This is now my preferred training technique and I’m seeing great results with it. Oh man does it hurt though! 💥💪🏼 ————————————————— What techniques do you like to use to get the most out of your workouts? 😊

I’d say never miss a Monday but I’ve missed too many mondays lately. Made it this week though and that’s the important thing 😂👌🏼 45 minute bike ride high resistance Leg press Reverse hyper extensions Leg curls Leg extensions I’m having a break from squats and dead lifts for a bit while I work on my form I’ve been doing a lot of stretching but it’s still not great my hammys and calves are so so tight!! so I’m doing a different leg day lay out for the mean time and stretching everyday to work up to being able to squat and dead lifting with great & safe form. I’m bummed to not being doing them for a while but there is no point doing it with poor form and risking an injury.

I CANT DO A PULL UP.......YET! I think it is easy for people to put themselves down when they are training and become discouraged to persevere. One of my goals is to be able to do a pull up. So, if I can’t do one rep how am I supposed to train for it? I want to show people over the next few weeks that exercises can be as simple or difficult as you want them to be, we are all on our own journey and are at different stages. So perform the movements that are appropriate for your level. For example, here I am doing an Australian Row. This is a pulling movement that is a essentially a horizontal pull up. If you are finding struggles with pull ups. Try this out! This might be one of THE most irritating things in the weight room! Picture the scene: You're happily training away. You finish with your set of dumbbells. You go to put the dumbbells away and pick up a slightly heavier set because things are going great for you today. You get to the part of the rack where you can return your dumbbells but wait... there's someone there leaning against the rack and rowing. You can't put your dumbbells away or get some new ones because the ones you want are being used to LEAN ON. . . Dumbbell rows are a tremendous exercise and I would never suggest that people not do them. However, lean against a bench rather than the rack! It's super selfish and ignorant to candidly get in the way of other people using the equipment because you've seen some big dudes on Instagram using the rack to lean on. . . Whinge over, I'm off to pick things up and put them back down again. Fitness!!

How do you do your Workout Split? 🏋️‍♂️ My current Split is Day 1 Legs, Day 2 Back/Abs, Day 3 Arms, Day 4 Shoulders/Chest, Day 5 Legs/Abs again because my Booty needs work haha, Day 6 Rest, and Day 7 Yoga/Namaste 🧘‍♀️. I do about 30 mins of brisk walking cardio after each lift too because I sit so much at work. I like this Split because it considers muscle soreness from previous days and you get all muscle groups covered in 4 days if you get in a jam!
