Hi! I wanted to introduce myself as many of you have been asking more about me and why I started this blog. My name is Shivangi Rao and Iโ€™m a 30-something woman living in San Francisco, California with my husband and sweet, 60-pound pup. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ• While I've always had a love for food, thanks to endless supplies of delicious Indian food from my mother and my community of Indian aunties, I learned most of my cooking in my early twenties from my mother. She was the kind of mother who always made sure my brother and I were nourished by both love and food. In another life, she would have been a world-famous chef. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿพโ€๐Ÿณ As I continued my twenties, I found myself dealing with more and more food intolerances and little success in determining the root cause. These food intolerances were just symptoms of a damaged gut that were causing auto-immune responses to high-sugar/carb/gluten filled foods. At one point, I was facing muscle weakness, joint pain, brain fog, and severe digestive issues. Finally, after many conversations with my best friend, she taught me that food is medicine. Together, we spent an entire summer making small yet beneficial changes to our diet, and explored a whole new world of recipes and flavor combinations through clean and unprocessed foods such as meats, vegetables, fruit, raw dairy, nuts, and seeds. I can understand that point of view as I didn't comprehend why people are fasting myself before I started looking into the science. I felt that it would not change anything if you consume only water for a restricted time. . But it turned out that stopping eating and giving the body a rest from digesting, can be very helpful and can heal the body in a much quicker time than just changing the diet: . Depending on the health condition, a wfpb diet may heal your body within several years. On a juice cleanse, it may take the body months to heal itself and a water fast may heal the body within a few weeks. . But why is that? . A whole food, plant-based diet gives the body all the antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals it needs to eliminate damaged cells. There is also a low amount of fat in the food so the arteries do not get blocked and there is no risk of getting heart failure. The chance of getting a high cholesterol level can be excluded as you do not consume saturated and trans fats. On a healthy diet with real food, the body is able to focus on fighting cancer and other damaged cells and gets the support it needs so that the system can stay fit and survivable. . Some of you were asking about my shake! I guess I don't talk about it enough. :) It isn't a mystery that I'm excited about food and nutrition. One of the things I have learned over the years is that your body can heal itself from many things just by giving it proper nutrition. While I do take supplements, I find when I can get them in liquid form like my shake my body readily absorbs it better. (Have you ever noticed neon color in your toilet after taking vitamin C? Hello! lol) ๐Ÿ˜œ When Justin and I juice fast this is one of our "juices" and by far one of our favorites! I used to think that it was fine to have a bowel movement every other day or 2, now I don't have that problem! ๐ŸงLOL! I have a great immune system and almost never get sick. ๐Ÿค’ When I drink my superfoods, I just feel awesome. If you can think of the feeling after a workout.. that endorphin rush, or when you've been eating well for a really long time, or just drinking sufficient water regularly.. the feeling when I drink my shake is the same. I just feel healthy, happy, and good. ๐Ÿ˜ I like it because it is so versatile. I have drank it for breakfast, snack, and as part of another meal. One of my favorite recipes is to put in the blender with a banana, pb fit, unsweetened coconut, spinach, unsweetened almond milk, and ice. I made Vegan Banana Muffins. I used to make these using Almond Flour but I'm trying to stick with Lowfat Plant-based. I used Organic flour instead. To much fat makes my heart race.
