My final sundowner on yesterday’s beautiful evening was a new concoction. When looking for ways to expand a gins potential repertoire in the g’n’t department I consult the Gin Tonica by David T Smith @ . I love cocktails but what I love even more is simplicity and when it come to a gin and tonic it doesn’t get more simple than that. Gin Tonica shows how with a few simple tweaks and the right combination the simple g’n’t can be elevated to greatness! So here my thinking was that @ goes very well with ginger ale and so does rum so there must be something to work with, that or the heat was getting to me? Enter the Gum and Tonic; the book explains that this is a combination of gin and rum. You can use either light or dark rum you just need to pick the right pair. On the jawbox website they list a recipe for a gin mojito, mint and lime and soda etc and one of my fav cocktails is the apple and vanilla rum mojito. Also jawbox gin can take some sweetness, there is a serving suggesting with honey which I would like to try next. So with the sweet and vanilla-ry Pink Pigeon rum, jawbox, a twist lime peel and a sprig of mint this was a super combination! I do like a bit more sweetness in my drinks so the vanilla rum maybe a bit much for some but the Gum and Tonic is a great serve and endlessly adaptable to what gin or rum you have in the cupboard! I’m at a festival next week I think I know what I will be taking!
