My 3 favorite tips we’ve learned for promoting a love of books and reading! . . .
1️⃣Keep books all over your home! Children who have books at home are much more likely to take an interest in reading! I like to place them in high traffic areas so Odin is more likely to see and have access to them...and of course in the bathroom! You can also try “staging” like the ones on top of the bookshelf to draw a bit more interest :) On a budget and don’t have books? Go to your local library! Make it a weekly activity you do together and let your child help you pick a few out or choose between two you’ve chosen. . . .
2️⃣Make reading a part of your routine every day, even if it’s just at bedtime or first thing in the morning, and even if it’s just a few pages. It’s totally OKAY if your child has other things in mind! 😘 Keep trying! And remember, earlier on, it’s not as important to read the words in the book as it is to talk to them about what they see in the pictures and do what you can to engage them in it! Using toys you have around the house to add a “feel and touch” component to the story can be helpful and fun too! . . .
3️⃣Let your child see YOU reading! Even if it’s just a magazine article, a few pages of a book or a newspaper. Modeling reading for your child is more likely to help them generate an interest in reading too! . . .
