We need more time to take care of ourselves. I believe that the health problems we see in the US and around the world are driven by lack of time. We don’t have time to take care of ourselves, so we suffer. We don’t have time to do what we love, so we suffer. We don’t have time to get adequate sleep, so we suffer. We don’t have time to make fresh, healthy meals, so we suffer. And all that suffering takes a toll on our mental, physical and spiritual health.
We need room for all of these things in our life, but unfortunately, the way our societies are structured, we simply can’t do it all. And usually, making room for one thing means taking away time from another.
I recently made the decision to make more room for myself. To take care of my needs, to do the things that matter to me, and to give myself the chance to explore my passions. This meant giving up a lot. Namely, my stable job, and a decent portion of my income. Life has to change, but I accept the changes that I need to make, because the work that I need to do is too important.
I want to acknowledge how very blessed and privileged I am to be able to take a step like this in my life, but not without also acknowledging how hard I worked to get myself to this point. Now it’s time to care for my needs. To cater to creativity, to explore my talents and my skills, to put everything I have into the things that matter, and to spread my wings and either fly... or fall. Whatever happens, I’m certain that the learning opportunity will be most valuable💕
