Being a teenage mum is bloody hard!! Unfortunately I'm talking about being the mum of teenagers not being a teenager myself 😖. It's so bloody hard!
I decided I would spend some quality time with my eldest son and have a mum and son date on Friday night. I announced this to hubby and he looked at me as though I was high for a brief second and replied "whatever you like honey". So I decided we would go on a date to Ben and Jerry's for icecream sundaes. Perfect. In my mind we would sit and bond over our Sundaes, talk about school, his friends and enjoy some quality time just the two of us without the interruptions of babies, toddlers and other kids. I said goodbye to the husband and told him I'd see him later on, he looked at me sympathetically and said "Ok babe, see you later. Have fun". So an icecream date with a 15 year old boy does not include talking about school and his friends or talking about anything much at all. It includes ordering Sundaes, eating Sundaes, me asking questions about school and friends and getting replies of 3 words or less and then being asked if we were going once Sundaes were eaten. We were back in the door 40 minutes later including the 10 minute trip there and back 😳. Our icecream Sundae date did however seem to come in handy every time over the rest of the weekend that my son was told he needed to come home to spend time with his family or that he has to have Sunday lunch with his family. "Gees mum, I already spent time with you on Friday night" 🤷♀️. -
