How did you get into climbing?
I've been climbing for just barely over two years now. My husband and I started climbing shortly after we got married because we wanted to find a fun exercise activity to do together. We were hooked immediately!
What are some of your climbing goals &/or projects?
My biggest ones are to boulder an indoor v8 and an outdoor v5, to cleanly lead an indoor 12b, and to get comfortable with leading outdoors - something I haven't done at all yet! They are ambitious goals, but I want to have motivation to up my training, so I'm aiming high!
What is your favorite type of problem?
Balancey/crimpy/stemmy routes! My upper body isn't particularly strong, so I struggle with routes that require a lot of brute strength. But I have ridiculously tiny hands, so crimps are a big strong-point of mine, and I have been doing ballet since I was very young, so I'm flexible and have good body-awareness and balance.
Where are some cool places you've climbed?
I had the incredible good fortune to have my first outdoor climbing experience be in Yosemite, which was just magical, but also absolutely kicked my butt! I am a mountain girl at heart, so being surrounded by such spectacular beauty while giving it my all on the same rocks that legends have climbed on is an experience that can't be beat.
Any inspirational words of advice for other female climbers?
Connect with women you can climb with and be inspired by! IG is a great tool for finding other ladies (follow/use the hashtag of your home gym) & don't be afraid to send the first message or comment. I am very introverted and have a lot of social anxiety around introducing myself to new people, but I forced myself to tackle those fears, & now I've met a number of amazing ladies through IG who I am super inspired by and love climbing with! Success story: I actually met Sabs by randomly walking up to her in the gym and being like, "Uh, you're in LadyCrushCrew, right?" She didn't think I was a weirdo!
