I finished a book the other day that touched on the concept of “the acomodador” or the giving-up point. If we think back on endeavors of ours that failed, there’s always one moment that started the grind to a halt, a single turning point that was the beginning of the end.
I’ve been writing consistently since I started college and knew I wanted to start a blog about my travels since almost two years ago. The one thing in my way? Wordpress. Or more specifically, technology in general. I may have an engineering degree, but I am the least tech savvy person you'll ever meet. I tried to change something like a menu bar once and absolutely could not make it work. This caused me to completely abandon the site for months, instead continuing to write articles and blurbs in notebooks or in my journal as I’ve been doing for years now. Something was still missing, though. It's part of the human condition to want to share your perspective and experiences. My creativity, self-expression, and all I’ve learned so far throughout my travels - it’s hardly ever seen the light of day, let alone helped anyone.
Well, I decided I will not let the acomodador win. I changed my theme to one with a front-end editor (praise god these exist haha.) I paid a guy 5 euros to fix an error that would have taken me weeks to figure out (thanks Milan!) I bought a couple things for my camera and completely organized all my photos and videos. I redesigned my blog and am working on typing up all the articles already completed in my pile of notebooks. I also brainstormed a master list of new articles I could write (I came up with over 200!)
I want to share the way I see the world and my passion for discovering it. I’ve learned so much through my travels and want to put the knowledge and lessons to good use. The blog is the way I’m going to do it. Is it perfect? No. Will it ever be? No! That’s just something I’ll have to get over. If you don’t suck as a beginner, you’re Michelangelo or something. I’m tired of making excuses for myself. The idea won’t leave me alone, so I’m going to do it. For real this time, check out www.carefreecompass.com (link in my bio) 🙂 New posts coming all the time 💙
