Rachel Bloom would probably relate to the feeling I have of simultaneously hating her and loving her for succeeding despite her mental illnesses. #representationmatters for who tells stories but Rachel takes it one step further and actually represents mental illness in her work! She created, writes for, and stars in the series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend which has been acclaimed for not only its accurate portrayal of mental illness, but also its comedy, sociocultural awareness, and just good writing. In 2016, Rachel won a Golden Globe for best actress in a TV comedy or musical. And this is all before she turned thirty! She is also a mental health advocate. On a personal note, Crazy ExGF was a show that helped me get through my strongest depression and for that I am filled with so much gratitude to her. Dreamin’ of working with her one day and helping her further disrupting the stigma and misrepresentation that exists in the media on mental illness.
