The suspense of having a beautiful, intelligent, emotional, powerful and symbolic animal underneath you is thrilling and humbling. This planet is not humans' alone, and the ocean is a place we visit but do not stay. @ClayoquotAction taught me this is the definition of 'wilderness'. We can visit, travel and recreate but remember that these creatures live here and we are just passing through. Respecting all life, make decisions based on the well being of all earthlings. 💙🌎🌊
"Do you see the slightest evidence anywhere in the universe that creation came to an end with the birth of man? Do you see the slightest evidence anywhere out there that man was the climax toward which creation had been straining from the beginning? ...Very far from it. The universe went on as before, the planet went on as before. Man's appearance caused no more stir than the appearance of jellyfish." Daniel Quinn, in Ishmael .
N.B. Travelling back to base camp is when we happened upon these beauties. We stopped paddling more than 200 metres from the orcas, and did not travel in their path, to enjoy watching them pass us by. Cetaceans have the right of way. By rafting up we made ourselves one object rather than an obstacle course, and we used a landmark nearby to make sure we weren't drifting with wind or current. We were lucky this beauty was curious and changed her path to pay us a visit. 💙🌎🌊
